A music sequencer reimagined with multiple playheads.

Fugue Machine is a tool inspired by composition techniques used in Baroque music and Serialism — e.g. Bach’s canons and fugues, and Schoenberg’s twelve-tone technique. The idea was to design a tool to manipulate a melody’s speed, direction, and pitch, as well as play multiple variations of the melody simultaneously.
As it turned out, the best implementation for this was to reimagine one of the most fundamental building blocks of all music sequencers: the piano roll.
Fugue Machine is the world’s first multi-playhead piano roll. Create a music sequence and play it back with up to four playheads at once — each at various speeds, directions, pitches, and more. Watch the playheads dance, and hear the complex patterns that emerge.
It’s mesmerizing.
Fugue Machine supports iPhone, iPad, MIDI, AUv3 MIDI, Ableton Link, Audiobus, Audiobus 3 MIDI, and Inter-App Audio. Thanks to the AUv3 standard, you can run multiple instances of Fugue Machine on the same device when hosted in an AUv3 MIDI host app — like Logic Pro, AUM, and Audiobus.

cool but
how do i load it into logic?
Sooooo gooooood!!!
This an amazing and very well done sequencer. Great tool for creating complex or simple yet interesting melodic sequences. The multiple playheads each doing there thing really bring the patterns to life. I'm a score composer for Snap judgment and I use this all the time. I also use it as my main melodic sequencer in my live set sending each play head to separate synths. Highly recommend! Pretty much the reason I got an iPad. It's a game changer!!
iPhone functionality is gross
Can’t communicate with GarageBand, but yet it shows up as an AUv3 option. When clicking on it, it just migrates to fugue… can’t change sounds, only pitch… I saw a video of someone using this on an iPad and they were able to have this app communicate with a few different ones and from there, change sounds/instruments… if this is not an option for iPhone then why make this available for iPhone?? It’s not even an option to copy the MIDI into GarageBand! Seriously, if you can’t fix these issues then for iPhone this should be a free app. I paid full price but got maybe 5% of the app. Not cool man… and this app is even advertised as an “additional extension” within GarageBand. So to be fair, I’m equally disappointed in Apple about this. This app looked so useful 😔 I guess it serves me right for paying for something and expecting to get what I paid for 😞
Amazing MIDI Controller
I love this app to control both synths and drum machines. I would love it even more if a random note generator were added. If that increased the price it would be worth it.
Cool concept but playback is wonky
Playback on iPhone 13 mini is wonky and sounds randomly shuffled and out of step regardless of buffer or playback settings. Really a bummer since it makes listening to what should be an amazing little piano roll kind of unbearable.
Amazing, but outdated
Alckemy here.
This little device has become a major staple in mobile sound design and idea crafting inside of Drambo.
A multi playhead sequencer is almost like having a “bach” button that creates super inspiring progressions and sequences and is highly usable.
I’m its current state it’s already awesome, but I do think some updates are in need as I don’t think the app has been patched… ever?
I don’t need much, just the ability to set the playback mode to a hz rate, nudge the notes off grid, and some tweaks to copy/paste as it does not work for me outside standalone.
On that note, it’s weird you can’t save or pull up presets while using it in plug-in mode, although it will remember the state if you save the entire rack in either drambo or Aum.
I wish this app existed in bitwig or as a plug-in for the computer. It’s mad handy

What a creative blessing!
Short and simple..these folks at RUIR have created a sequencer which is as close to AI in music as I have seen. It brilliant! It will play tight or loose but the real strength is how it manages to make the separate voices work together to bring about truly special bars.
Great job guy!
So much fun!
I’ve wanted something like this for years. The ability to pipe the MIDI out to external apps is awesome since the app only has one sound. I just wish there was an audio version.
Wish all the arrow play buttons were /on off
See title….great program ; …also wish you could set each note to its own individual velocity and bend
