PC Autosave implemented on iOS
After terribly unreliable fiddling with the camera remote way of importing photos (tried with official app, and Cascable) from my X-T100, finally found that PC Autosave over my WiFi router works more reliably and is easier to trigger too. Now I’ve found this app that seems to have reverse engineered the protocol, letting me reliably sync to my phone over router or my hotspot! Never going to try to connect to the camera’s WiFi ever again. A few notes: 1. App forces you to give access to *all* my photos and your precise location. The album management feature should be optional, I don’t see why the app can’t simply add photos to camera roll and keep track of the history. Also, I should get the option to only use the PC Autosave, which should only need permission to see devices on my network - it shouldn’t need any more network information beyond, so I should be able to skip the location permission when using that. Privacy policy claims to not collect any data, but I don’t know how to audit that. 2. Default video instruction shows how to try the regular connection via camera WiFi. Skip it. There should be a link on that page for PC Autosync, follow that, that’s the real use of this app. Developer should highlight that first imo. 3. Noticeably slower transfer speed than to my Mac. Same camera, same router, same distance, but the official software goes by about 10x faster. But honestly, I’ll take it, it’s no slower than the camera remote app and it’s way less finicky. It does stop mid-sync if the phone locks / display turns off - I’m not sure if there’s a way to get such a sync allowed as background activity. 4. Developer seems to have figured out how to limit the transfer to “last week”, “last day”, etc. instead of all or nothing like the official software, which is awesome! Maybe this trick can be used to select specific ones (e.g. provide range or list of file numbers to transfer).
