A good, but failed initiative. The makers of Ground News have rightly identified the need for an independent instrument that categorizes news media and their reporting on the basis of 'bias'. However, Ground News does not succeed in that ambition; it misses the mark over and over again. It is good however that Ground News is transparent about the way in which it reports on the bias of news media. Precisely because of this it becomes painfully clear how the initiative gets stuck in a murky swamp of subjective and contestable value judgments. All in all not a valuable app to navigate your way through international news reporting.

It keeps on crashing on my iPhone 13 with iOS 17.4.1

Nice overview of world news. The labels Left Center Right don’t always apply, but that doesn’t matter. It lets me compare articles and subtract the facts easily.

Like the analysts to interpreted the article’s. The function I’m missing is a good translation function I like to read the news in my native language but the function works very wel or not at all. Could be the translation plugin per website because groundnews is just a aggregator. But it’s inconvenient nonetheless.

The app is a perfect unbiased tool for anyone who takes journalism seriously. It enables you to find your way in the truth to news stories all over our planet an beyond. It does so ‘simply’ by combining all data around a story, who is investigating and who is reporting it. What you do with this information is up to you, but at least you can make a story that is factually right. I applaud the developers and the small but efficient group that keeps this app working as it should.

When I go to “manage account” the app shows the menu but appears to be loading something for eternity, meanwhile nothing in te menu responds making the “manage account” menu not useable.

Look, I get what you’re doing here and I applaud it, but this is the third time I’m uninstalling this app because it’s just an awful app for reading news (it’s main purpose imho). The overall look and feel is so brutalist and un-engaging that it’s like one of my back end developers coming up with a “good clean design” And man, don’t put THAT much focus on the political spectrum stuff. I don’t need to be reminded of the political split in the world every single news post. What I want is a news app that takes me to stuff in my blind spots so I’m informed. And if I want to, I’d like to see the coverage of an article somewhere, when scrolling down. Hope you agree with me because I really prefer this app over some biased stuff. That just leads me to not reading the news at all.

I want to use the app, but can’t even open it

An opinion must be based on facts. This app with a truly impressive user interface shows the facts presented by left media, right media and center with first a general summary of the news. This way you can form a well based opinion and… see how some media are very creative with leaving out background, context or relevant details.
