It doesn't do anything like attempting to probe/ping every IP, instead it relies on reading the OS arp table to find the IP addresses. This is fast, but unfortunately, unless your device has had reason to contact all the devices on your network, it is an incomplete list. I used to recommend this to everyone. I try to hard code an ip address for every device, but sometimes when they update or if I add a new device they “get lost”. I use IP scanner to scan the entire network when things get lost or if the network is very slow. One day I discovered two devices eating a lot of bandwidth, and no , not my banned chinese cameras either. I rebooted the devices and all was well. In terms of the app itself, bear in mind that device names do not sync via iCloud, so if you plan in installing it in more than one machine forget about it. App sometimes is buggy in the sense that it does not recognize all devices in the first scan - you will need to scan the network two to three times to make sure you have a full picture. Also, custom names do not appear at once, again you will need to scan the network two to three times before the app can display devices with their custom names. Finally, it keep crashing and becomes slow and unresponsive on macOS 13.5.
