I have to say, I’m genuinely impressed by Mistral, Le Chat. It’s not as powerful as OpenAI’s ChatGPT, but honestly, it feels more pleasant to work with than Gemini. It’s fast, reliable, and no-nonsense, it just works!

And here’s the surprising part: it’s French. Yes, finally, the French have built something that genuinely stands up to the big players in the market. No fifth wheel, no “almost but not quite” product, this one actually delivers. And that’s refreshing to see, especially considering how French tech has been stepping up lately.

Le Chat isn’t perfect (no AI is) but for what it is, it’s a solid, well-designed chatbot that holds its own. It may not deserve five stars compared to some of the heavyweights, but it definitely earns high marks for execution and ease of use. Fast, reliable, and honestly just pleasant to use. Very happy with it! Except for the part that it doesn’t have spoken audio input, that would a big plus if it would be included the next update 🙂

I find the basic functionality one would expect of these assistants isn’t lacking at all and I use it everyday, first as the web application now as a native iOS app.

With the exception of highly specialized fields, Le Chat is just as useful (or useless) as any other assistant out there.

When it comes to coding, it performs on par with other mainstream models with perhaps the exception of Qwen 2.5 max which so far’s been the most competent and helpful model of those I’ve tested. 

I would recommend it to everyone and anyone, but specially to those paying attention to (data) sovereignty.
