* Custom places you create (like this cute secret beach) stay only on your map and never enter mapstr’s global database
* 100 % EU servers, GDPR-first, zero ad-tracking

Great way to reward loyal customers

As other reviews have put it, after years of feeding data into their system, now charging an extortionate amount per year is how they repay you. Sudden and without warning. Biding time for now, but look out for a suitable alternative! Edit: developer seems to want to battle the customer in a passive aggressive manner as opposed to addressing the main issue put to them head on with a legitimate answer- why suddenly start charging a subscription? I don’t care if you say it’s “only the price of a beer”. Who are you to say to people it’s only the price of anything. Fair enough you have been warning people for 2 months, however it bears no importance how long you have been warning people about your current extortions - made even more obvious by your recent surprise “offer extension”. You have been found out and that’s what you don’t like.

Your New Subscription System Is Absurd

I’ve been a very happy user for years, adding over 1,000 places to my account. Your decision to force me to now pay £50/year simply feels extortionate. How disrespectful considering the amount of time I’ve taken to feed data into your system. *Update* since I’ve gotten a disappointing reply from you: when I create a new place that other users can then find by entering the address, providing the name and updating pictures, I would absolutely call that feeding data. It’s very disingenuous and a bit demeaning of you to say that I’m only benefitting from the data you’re providing. Getting revenue from your hard work is not in itself disrespectful. However, forcing an unannounced £50 annual subscription without any prior communication or warning in order to keep using your app is. Considering the price tag, I think you’re widely over-evaluating your app’s stickiness and usefulness. It’s a real shame considering how many people I’ve turned to in the past to say: “hey, have you heard of Mapstr?”

Scammy new subscription model

Sadly I will have to stop using this fun app as they moved to an extortionate subscription model if you have over 300 places saved. After raising huge crowdfunding. Yuck. £70/year is crazy for placing little pins on a map.

Bye bye

We’ll need paying membership to add pin on a map… I’m very disappointed… I’ll go on gmap which is free

Insane subscription fee.

Spent years manually building a record of places I wanted to visit. Now, suddenly, the app is £70/year, and all that time is wasted unless users accept the sudden and extortionate bait-and-switch. Despicable.

Bye bye

It had it be a great app, but with the latest upgrade (you either upgrade to premium or nothing, basically) they lost a long time loving user.

It’s a goodbye

Agreed with all the most recent reviews. I’ve been an affectionate user for year and have more than 1k places saved. Introducing such an expensive membership will see me going too, sad but will move everything on google maps!

Now a Subscription App

Castlebear09 on

SUBSCRIPTION REQUIRED I was looking for an app to pin my favourite places on a map, that was free and without a subscription. I found it with Mapstr, but now you have to pay for it if you want all features. I am going to delete this app because of this, and try and find another one again, The developers of this app should be ashamed. When I first downloaded this app, I would consider it 4 stars, but it had gone downhill DO NOT DOWNLOAD. SUBSCRIPTION REQUIRED

Change your subscription model if you don’t want to lose your users

I’ve been a user of this app since the beginning and have over 2,000 places saved. I got at least 20 friends to sign up and use it because I was so enthusiastic about it. Yet today you lost one of your most affectionate users. I love this app so much that I’d be willing to pay for it, but don’t agree with the decision of forcing all users to pay for the same subscription tier and also introducing the plus version with no warning. It feels extortionate and manipulative. The use I make of it doesn’t need all the supposedly fancy features you’re offering, nor integration with other people’s maps. I can just as easily start using Google Maps for the same stuff. You can still reconsider and add a mid tier level for 2-3 euros per month and I’d subscribe. This would keep you going for longer than what you’d probably make by convincing a handful of users to pay for the current subscription price.

DISAPPOINTED

I have been a true big fan of Mapster since its creation, having recommended it to all my friends. I am extremely disappointed that you now have to pay 10£ a month to have an unlimited use. I will NOT be using it again. EVER.
