Mela - Recipe Manager

I absolutely love this app. The layout is simple yet powerful, and just works. The interface is clean and stunning to look at. I’ve used a few different cooking apps (Paparika - doesn’t import from scans), (Crouton - very distracting interface), and this is by far my favourite. I haven’t tried the weekly planner yet, but the feeds work amazingly and I can import from web pages and cooking books super easily. The grocery list is a nice feature too, along with cooking multiple recipes at once. It isn’t perfect, there are a couple of things I wish it did better, such as a smarter recipe scan function (it reads the text really well, but you have to select the sections as you scan, such as title and ingredients, which can be a little frustrating), converting things like oven temperatures in cooking instructions to metric (it seems to only convert weights and volumes in ingredients), and potentially a little notes area to capture miscellaneous details that don’t fit into specific recipes (such as ideal meat temperatures and common ingredient substitutions etc). Overall, I’m super happy with this app and was exactly what I was looking for.

I love the app but wish the search field was sticky and stayed at the top of the screen. Scrolling all the way to the top of my library is painful. A bit more fine tuning to the scaling feature would be useful too - I often want to adjust a recipe to maximise a single ingredient that I may have and find it difficult with Mela

It helps me to manage all my favourite recipes in one place. The parser works magically, very handy to add new recipes. Searching is case sensitive on my iPhone 14 Pro, not sure whether it’s intentional.

When you find a developer who echoes your aesthetic and taste, take notice when they release something new. The same usability and refined user experience shines through in this stunningly competent first version. No longer shall I bury recipes in a Read Later App (never to be seen again), or Bookmark then in some deep folder. The recipe parser is superb, and should you find some website that defies it, manual recipe input is elegant and straightforward. A deeply impressive and delightful piece of software. I never thought I'd be excited to be managing recipes.

This is a great bit of software. Intuitive and useful. Love that it doesn’t track you or charge you a monthly fee but is very useful for handling my recipe collection. Great job! Great programming! Useful and worth the money. Does exactly what I want it to and has features I didn’t even know that I wanted. Love links to other recipes, dimming out the ingredients as you work, importing recipes, even a timer while you cook. Wow. Haven’t found any down side yet.

Serious props to the creator of this app. Super seamless, insanely useful. And the pricing model (one time purchase-NOT a subscription) completely won me over.

I never pay for apps and I paid for this one. Totally worth it - I have over 2K recipes saved. I can decide what I want to eat when I am leaving work since I can just scroll and find what I want to cook. And a big bonus is being able to adjust the recipe size. The two small issues I have is that I can’t mark if I have already cooked something. And I can’t search recipes by ingredient.

Absolutely obsessed with the app my only gripe is that it’s always stuck on All recipes and it Makes the app feel cluttered. Would love to be able to have all my categories shown at first then I could select through them. But seems there isn’t a way to do that with out using the drop downs so whenever I entered the app it’s just all my recipes. Would love that extra layer of organization

This is literally everything I have wanted in a recipe app. Cuts out all the stupid chatter of blog recipes. Can double, triple, or even half a recipe for you. Easily adds items from the recipe to a grocery list for you. It’s perfect. I love it. The photo/scan recipe is the only maybe flaw. That’s would be a hard system to code for so it gets a pass. It still works and I don’t get my recipes from magazines as much anyway. Everything else is just wonderful. Highly recommend.
