Becoming aware of the link between sounds and letters is the first step in learning to read. Entertaining illustrations allow children to search for clues about what birthday surprises are in store for Milo the monkey. Each page is full of alteration - Felix the frog flips and flops with four fat fish, Kylie the koala practises karate kicks and Cooper the caterpillar crawls on a cactus. Touch the guitar to hear the upbeat song for each one of Milo's friends. Children adore the songs about Milo and his friends. Learning literacy skills has never been so much fun! Milo's Birthday Surprise can be read over and over again. Mil's Birthday Surprise is not in alphabetical order. With Stages 1-4 of their books the App will read along to the child, but Milo’s Birthday Surprise does not. Given that a child needs to know their alphabet and the sounds the letters make before they start reading, this App should read the words out to teach the child. There is only one audio song in the App that does not link to any of the pages of the book. If the book read the sounds and words out to the child then this would be a 5 Star App. Here’s hoping that an update is released to finish this App of to the standard it should be for the price. ********************************************* We originally rated this as 2 Stars, but have figured out how to get the different songs to play. The song either needs to finish or you need to tap the guitar on each page to manually load the new pages song, it does not change automatically when you change pages.
