Frequent connection issues, duplicated transactions, out of sync account balances. Poor Data
infrastructure all around. I’ve had to manually balance my accounts by uploading a csv of my transactions. Not to mention support is very careless, and will often duplicate your transactions when attempting to fix issues. I can not trust the data they present me is accurate. This app requires more
Manual calibration than a basic budgeting spreadsheet on excel.

I have to remove my old account and then re-entered it which is annoying because they ask you to authenticate every few days anyway I also don’t find it to be very user-friendly

I have subscriptions that are every 2 months. Can’t set that up. Recurring payments must be from their list of merchants. Which doesn’t even have a big company like Apple. So I can’t budget my apple subscriptions. Liked the app until I tried to set up a budget but can’t

What a GARBAGE app. You go in to add an account manually and it starts pestering you to subscribe. It gets you in this loop where you can’t exit out of the subscription page until you subscribe. It won’t let you add a bank account until you subscribe and it won’t let you exit out of the subscription page. They harass you to subscribe every 5 minutes.

It’s hard to justify paying a membership for an application they rely on for your budgeting when suddenly the connection to your financial institution stops working sometimes for 4 to 6 months without any justification. If maintaining the connection service up is not within your control, you can’t possibly justify selling it to a customer.

I’ve given Monarch two years. Two years since the acquired many Canadian customers once Intuit’s free tool Mint was sunsetted. This was the closest comparative tool and still to my knowledge is. They took the customers but never came close to offering the same quality in connectivity to Canadian banks and products. You can’t connect updates from significant players in the financial industry no Neo Financial connectivity, no Questrade connectivity. Intuit had both. The connections that do work (EQ Bank, TD, RBC, Wealthsimple) require weekly reconnections. I figured they just needed time to prioritize their Canadian customers and work out the bugs but the improvements never came. I can’t wait for a stronger or more competitive option to come so I can switch.

As much as I love the app, IT DOES NOT WORK WITH CANADIAN BANKS, thanks to the poor performance and responsiveness of Plaid, the data integrator company. DO NOT SUBSCRIBE TO MONARCH IF YOU WANT TO USE IT WITH CANADIAN BANKS. And Monarch itself gave up and will not help you with the problems you might encounter. I have not been able to connect properly (actually can’t connect at all) with Scotiabank (to give an example) for over a month which makes the app useless.

My husband and I downloaded Monarch to monitor our spending. Within 24 hours we were both getting texts from our banking platforms sending us verification codes that we didn’t request because other parties were attempting to hack into our account. We promptly deleted it and hope that our banking won’t be compromised.
