A very great port with a few minor grievances
The game does an honorable job replicating the feel of the NES game in a more modern style. It has by far the best graphical and audio of any version of the game, though the presentation is still better on the Wonderswan version. Gameplay is about on par with the Wonderswan version, but with no vertical scrolling screen. It seems as though there’s not much to complain about in this port… Well, kind of… While I get it’s a mobile game and that in app purchases were to be expected, the use of gems to boost yourself in a game feels more like an afterthought and was made solely to make revenue. It’s not required to use or anything, but it’s something I wonder why they bothered adding. Then there’s the presentation I mentioned. The plot is the same, but we don’t get any cool additional cutscenes like the Wonderswan port, instead aiming to be closer to the NES original in style. Oh well, can’t have em all, I suppose
