Scam

Total scam. Waste of money. There is no actual coaching—it’s just basically a habit tracker that you customize. I bought a six month package and stopped after three months because it was a total waste of time. I had no progress against any of my goals and the “coach” could see that and clearly didn’t care. It’s too bad as the philosophy of NF resonates with me, but this was a scam.

app is awful, would not recommend the coaching program either - scammy and uses template messages, no live interaction with coach

Format is a disaster

If you know how to research and vet trainers/coaches, NF is not worth $200/month. When I tried to schedule a call, I didn’t get one of the coaches but a member of a sales team who I knew was not qualified to answer specific questions I had about how to arrange a program that would work for me. I demanded she put one of the coaches on the line when I discovered this. She refused. This is all you really need to know. The NF team doesn’t understand that by forcing you to commit before you can be matched with a coach, you basically have to go through a double consult which means there is a reasonable chance you’ll draw a coach you won’t hit off with. It also indicates that the NF team does not trust the coaches to do their jobs which includes consulting potential clients, something the team refuses to accept. You’re better off spending extra money for an in-person certified trainer and registered dietician, unless of course you’re penny pinching or clueless on how to research coaches.

Great service, ok app

I want to be clear that this isn’t a review of the nerd fitness program as a whole–just the app. I’m loving my experience with my coach overall. The app does a really poor job with notifications. I’ll see on my Home Screen that I have one, then open the app and see nothing new in my Notification Center. Rather, the Notification Center is literally an archive of every single notification I’ve ever received from an unlocked achievement to a thumbs up from my coach in a pages-long list, and the notifications are all marked as seen/inactive. I’d like to be able to see just new notifications from the last 24-48 hours or last 3 logins or something like that, and for notifications that came up as a banner to stay active until I’ve viewed them in the Notification Center at least once. Since all communication with your coach is remote in this program, seeing new messages and notifications is key to being on the same page with them. When you see an endless list of viewed notifications and the new ones don’t stand out, it’s a letdown and barrier to feeling connected.

Lots of clicks to record workouts. Many errors on notifications. Good for centralizing coaching activities.

App: meh. Coaching: really nice!

I’ve been using this service for a couple years now and I’ve had a great experience with my coach. I’ve hit a bunch of health milestones: flexibility, building muscle mass, being able to get off the floor without making the get-off-the-floor noise. Really nice! That’s the five stars right there. The app itself is nothing to write home about. That’s kind of fine with me, though… the app is just a tool; it can’t do the work for me. Are there things I’d do differently? Sure! But the rough edges rarely get in the way of my workouts or communicating with my coach and they’re consistently making improvements, so good enough!

I’m a Nerd Fitness Fan Girl

I’ve been a Nerd Fitness customer for several years and am a big fan. The app really helps to keep track of my data and my relationship with my coach. The Nerd Fitness team is constantly evolving and coming up with new content. Like all coaching relationships you get out of it what you put into it. Because it’s virtual it does take a little more effort but I think it is worth it for the personalized relationship with people who are like minded, non-shamey and super freakin’ friendly.

Save your money

I used Nerd Fitness Coaching for two months and it was a huge waste of money. Although the coach they assigned me was nice, he was honestly completely useless. At first, I received daily videos full of excitement of everything we were going to do, how excited he was to help me on my journey, basic answers to my questions, but that was about it. If I mentioned something like nutrition, I’d get a link for a recipe. If I told him what I could do and wanted to do, I’d get a basic response and have to repeat it until I saw a switch in my daily to do. That’s all this is, is a to do list and a basic response from your coach daily and sometimes not even that. I had to do all the research on my own to get answers. He was either skimming my questions or flat out ignored them. The to dos that were assigned were inconsistent, a lot of blank days, no to dos were set in things agreed to do. It was a mess. Your food log confuses of taking pictures of your food or a list of your food and it was never brought up, never requested or questioned if I missed a day. Nothing. If I told him I had a bad food day or a cheat meal, no questions at all about it. I had to get on the coach about consistency and holding me accountable and he didn’t even acknowledge it. When I made a decision about something the response was, “yeah, my other clients are doing that too.” The good news? It was very easy to cancel, just send an email to customer service and that was it. Please, save your money. You are better off getting a calorie tracker and one of the many exercise apps with workouts. This is just a to do list that you can do on your own and random texts Monday through Friday and most of the time, not even that.

I wouldn’t use it if I had a choice

I find this app very frustrating and to be honest, if I didn’t have to use it for communicating with my NF coach, I definitely wouldn’t. This app is the poster child for why you shouldn’t shoehorn web apps into native wrappers and think that you have made a mobile app. I can say that the mobile app is at least a much better experience than their web app, which is so bad they shouldn’t even have it deployed where customers can reach it. The UI for the mobile app is too clunky and childish. The headers are too big and the data density is too low. I shouldn’t need to scroll and scroll to enter data for a workout. Every other app that allows me to upload a photo or video has figured out how to differentiate photos from videos, but this app insists on offering me separate options for “Select photo” “Select video” “Take photo” and “Take video”. And it doesn’t allow pasting images in either, so if I want to send a screenshot, I have to save it to my camera roll rather than copying it and then deleting it. Oh, and if you’re uploading a photo, you better be sure you chose the right one because there’s no confirmation before the upload actually occurs. You tap on an image and *zoom* there it goes! Because it’s a web app wrapper and because their QA process is inadequate or non-existant, they’re able to deploy new bugs frequently such as the recent one where I could not delete a workout. And from what I can tell, the only way to report bugs is by telling my coach. That’s not what she is for! Syncing is a mess. I find data that I am not yet finished entering attempting to sync or being blanked out because syncing finished and the app updated the object that I was in the process of editing. This happens most often with notes on tasks, but I have seen it in other areas as well. I find it frustrating that the app doesn’t integrate with HealthKit for fetching things like Activity data, workouts, and body measurements. I shouldn’t have to enter this stuff multiple times if it’s already being managed in a central place. I’ve mentioned it to my coach for months and the last answer, from just a couple months ago, was that this still isn’t even on the development horizon. Come on… Like a reviewer on the other Nerd Fitness app mentioned, I would love if this integrated more with my Nerd Fitness profile, my quests, character, and epic quests, and other things that Nerd Fitness is uniquely suited to. Let me manage my workouts and health measurements myself and then read thos
