New York City Subway for iPhone is a comprehensive guide to traveling through New York City (NYC).

● Latest map of New York City Transit. Landscape and portrait modes are available. Detailed map of each line.

● Optimized for the latest iPhone screens. Works on all iPhone versions.

● Precise location of each station on the map (with a red circle). This application is fully compatible with Apple Maps, each station is represented by a red pin, a popup shows you the distance, and it's updated live (thanks to GPS) as you walk down the streets of NYC.

● The journey planner tool allows you to find automatically the best route to get to your destination in NYC Subway. Interactive map to choose your stations for the route. The journey planner does not require a network connection to operate, it works perfectly while in the subway.

● A bookmark manager allows you to save your favorite stations and routes.

● The application locates the nearest subway stations from your position in NYC. You can also provide an address in NYC, the application indicates the stations closest to that address.

The problem with this app is that you already need to be an expert at knowing the NYC subway system in order to use it. But if you’re just standing on a random street corner and you want to know how to get from your current location to somewhere else, it won’t tell you where the nearest subway station is and it certainly won’t even tell you how to walk to the nearest subway station. It basically just shows you the subway lines, but trying to get to the subway or navigating the subway is up to you.

Looked like it had a great map where you could select your station but it did not work. To make things worse, as I kept trying to work out the details an ad would pop up and disrupt the entire process. Id pay $5-$6 for a good app with an interactive map. This isn’t it.

This app is ok for general information but doesn’t account for weekend schedule variables or provide track closure and maintenance updates.  We were rerouted several times for closure and construction not known by the app and wasted much of our time.  Better to use an app that is updated since track closures and weekend changes will likely impact travel frequently.

It is clear everyone loves everything about this app, but the info hasn't been updated in five years. I notice a recent update to fix a bug, but the train lines need to be updated as well.  The Q train stopped going to queens almost two years ago, and where is the W Train Line? This is still the only app I've ever paid for in the 11 years I've been using an iPhone. I would love to recommend it to people who ask me for directions or friends visiting the city, but the developers refuse to update the info. They must have something against being a successful app and making money, because this makes zero sense.
