Useful, easy understand. I love this app.
The list is more to European food. Asian foods are missing.
I have had this app for years. I used to really like it. A couple of years ago however, they really dumbed it down. It used to have detailed nutrient information, for example, both soluble and insoluble fiber. Now, it just has very basic info for each food that you can get from any food label. You used to be able to see a very comprehensive list of foods that were high or low in a specific nutrient. (For example, “Im trying to eat more magnesium,” or “I have a relative who can’t eat vitamin K”.) Now this will show you the top 100 foods for a given nutrient, but unfortunately, these ingredients or foods are not de-duped so you tended to get a list that has a lot of repeats, or very odd and obscure foods and you can’t scroll past the end of the 100 items. It’s basically just like every other super simple calorie counting app out there, and I don’t think this is very differentiated or special any more.
Also the older version was a lot more intuitive
You can no longer add foods via the camera and adding a new food manually consistently fail to populate properly. inputting (iPhone iOS 17). It has been over a year since any effort to update has happened. The time setting on an entry is egregiously slow. The only reason I continue to use the app is because it tracks details most diet tracking apps leave out, such as potassium - when it works. Have gotten no response or fixes from developers.
I’ve used this app for years to help me find ingredients with particular vitamins and minerals that I run low on. With recent updates, my favorites history has been removed (🙁), but also the sorting by vitamin/mineral content has become useless to me because every result is some kind of Native American plant or meat that I absolutely have no access to. (Caribou ice cream??? In central USA???? We don’t even have caribou here, much less caribou ice cream!) I really appreciate that these foods are in the app, but it would be wonderful if there was an option to omit certain categories from the searches and sorting. I also cannot eat fish, so it would help me there too for the nutrient categories that are 90% fish. The sorting limits also appear to be broken, so when I select “all” it still only displays the top 100 results. Just feeling very disappointed in this app in recent years. It used to be my go to for nutrient packed meal plans, but now I can rarely find anything relevant. I will revise this review again if positive changes are made in the future. Currently: if you can eat fish and live in Alaska or among the Plains Indians this may be great for you. If you live in a typical city? Eh.
