This app you have to pay for, then you also have to buy an army book to get your army’s rules on the app. So if you want to learn the rules of other armies you have to buy there codex as well. And it takes over a month for the app to be updated with new rules. It should be updated the same day new rules are made available. The only reason in my opinion the apps are any good in the first place, it’s the only way to really keep up with all the constant rules changes and rules bloating. I don’t use BattleScribe at all anymore. Really handy for looking up rules during a game and working out army lists. The Munitorum field manual and the Q1 2023 balance dataslate has been available for over a week but the app hasn’t been updated to reflect the new rules. Sadly it’s seems there is little interest from GW in fixing this. The app is riddled with errors. For example, selecting a Repentia Superior for the Adepta Sororitas uses up an elite slot, despite the fact the codex clearly states that when chosen alongside a unit of Sister Repentia this should not be the case. This is typical of the app (similar force organisation problems occur regularly, making the app claim legal army lists are invalid), which fails to take into account GW’s own codex rules in too many instances. The app also seems to randomly deduct CP without explanation (there is no breakdown of how your CP is being spent, despite this presumably being relatively easy to include). The eventual army list that the app produces is also very lacklustre compared to competing services (which list for example all your special rules on said list for easy reference during play), even when one has paid for the codex rules and inputted the code to the app. Other options, such as sacred rites for Sisters, are missing entirely. In some cases the app also randomly deducts more points than the selected units/wargear. Making it unreliable for even this simple task. Given that the app has now been out for a long time, for the Adepta Sororitas list to still be riddled with errors is fairly unforgivable. Similarly, given how important this app will be to players first entering the hobby, this seems like a huge opportunity that has been missed. And given the size of GW, it does not seem too much to ask that a paid for app is probably tested, improved and iteratively developed in line with user research. A real shame. Wanted to love this.
