Founded by military doctors and world-leading tinnitus specialists, the Oto program will teach you to become unaware of your tinnitus and stop noticing it. If you do notice it, it won’t bother you. It’s like when you fly on a plane. At first the sound of the engines is very loud. But after 10 minutes your brain tunes out the sound and you can read, watch TV or even go to sleep. You don’t notice the sound of the engines. This process is called habituation. When you are habituated to your tinnitus it no longer has a impact on your life. You don’t think about it and it doesn’t make you feel bad. HOW DOES IT WORK? The Oto app uses something called cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). CBT has been proven to be the best way to tune out tinnitus. CBT is normally delivered by talking one on one with an audiologist or a psychologist. Oto now recreates this experience. Each day you listen to one or two audio sessions that use CBT and other therapeutic techniques. You work your way through a structured audio program that lasts approximately 3 months. The app then tells you to repeat and practice sessions from the program until you have tuned out your tinnitus. HOW DO I START? First, Oto will assess your tinnitus stage to then recommend a personalised plan for you. Habituation is when your brain no longer reacts negatively to tinnitus, so that you stop noticing it. Whatever your stage, we can help reduce the impact of your tinnitus. DAILY GUIDANCE You can listen to just 5-10 minute audio sessions each day which will introduce you to a range of clinically proven techniques. I got started with the 7 day free trial and within a couple of days was feeling like things were getting better. There is a lot to like but probably the best thing for me is that everything on there is positively focussed. For example the daily sessions and resources are all geared around “things will get better”. The intro video has terrible audio (and production) quality where’s it’s obviously been compressed down for streaming. I get the developers have to make a living and this can’t be free but for £10 a month what are you actually offering for that money a put together web page app of documents and audio recordings which you never have to update. If you sold this at a decent affordable price with paid options for 1:1 advice. I could understand but £10 a month is just fleecing poor tinnitus sufferers & I bet many have money worries that this only adds too!
