## Platter's Wine Guide Description
Platter's by Diners Club Wine Guide 2024 - Everything you want to know about South African wine
PLEASE NOTE -- THIS APP IS FREE TO DOWNLOAD BUT THEREAFTER A PAID SUBSCRIPTION TO PLATTER'S DATA IS REQUIRED. A SUBSCRIPTION IS VALID FOR ONE YEAR AND INCLUDES ACCESS TO THE WEB-BASED GUIDE (WWW.WINEONAPLATTER.COM)

Since 1980, Platter's hardcover book has been the winelover's essential guide to exploring the world of South African wine, including reviews of over 8,000 wines by a team of expert judges and key information about more than 900 wine producers. This app is “Platter's in your pocket", with the latest wine descriptions and ratings, plus updated winelands travel information at your fingertips.

To note: 
1. Platter's app has been developed for the latest phone software versions and all features may not work on earlier versions. 
2. The app data is replaced annually at launch of the new printed guide. A subscription allows access to the data for one year from date of subscription purchase, whereafter you will need to renew your subscription. 
3. Occasionally there may be wines that are not in the database. Usually this is due to producer non-submission or wines not being ready for review by our tasters. You are welcome to email us to check.
4. Users of the web-based version of the guide (www.wineonaplatter.com) can log in to the app using their current Platter's username and password.

The app features:
- The wine descriptions and ratings for the latest edition (2022), plus all the reviews since 2008
- Search for wines using detailed drop-down menus
- Winery overviews and essential information (owner, winemaker, viticulturist etc)
- Tourist information such as tasting lounge opening hours, visitor attractions and amenities
- Facility to rate the wines yourself
- Facility to save your favourite wines and thereby build a virtual collection
- Facility share your wine discoveries on social media
- Easy winelands navigation via Google maps
- Find wineries near you with built-in geo-location

Do not spend your money to “subscribe” for a year. A week later, you will be kicked out, like me and will surprisingly, have to subscribe for yet another year.. I e-mailed, tried on the app. Nada, niks.. log out, log in.. Subscribe and you will get all these awesome reviews. You don’t. Scam!

App worked perfectly when I had my 3 free searches. As soon as I paid for the subscription nothing works! Workaround is to use the website. But today that is failing to load. Reading other reviews from months ago, it is utterly disappointing that establishments like Platters and Diners club has not done anything to try and rectify this.

Very disappointed. I’ve been using the previous version for years with great joy but was now forced to subscribe and pay for the 2020 version. Used up 5 free searches now I’m urged to subscribe!? What? Also, user interface not as good as previous version. Boschendal Elgin Chardonnay not even rated. Info on estates and producers very poor.  I’ll not be recommending Platter App to friends any more like I used to.

I really want to support the wine industry and platters, but this is a really poor effort. 

I agree with carmz above, even the webpage is a little disappointing. That at least works, but consumers need a little more info. We need tasting notes, a pic of the bottle. Not difficult to curate. Not just a score

I purchased this app as I thought it would contain as much information as the books do. When you out shopping and you want to see information and reviews on wine you just check the app instead of lugging a book around. For the amount of money this app costs - it’s a total rip off and does a great disservice to the wonderful reputation platters has. There is no valid information on the wines at all, except a name and a farm, really, Google does that job impeccably! I wish I could go to an app ombudsman to get my money back! This was hard earned money flushed down the drain.

I love the Platters wine guide and to have it in your pocket on your phone was going to be exactly what I wanted... but alas this is NOT what you get. 

The app is cumbersome, lacking a lot of producers, and lacking all the detail you’d expect from Platters. This is a total waste of time and money and really does the Platters name a disservice - what a pity.

This is the worst wine app ever made. How am I able to get a refund? Many South African wines do not even show up when trying to search.  Have tried many different producers and different vintages and they don’t show up. If you are a wine lover this is not the app for you. In fact i don’t  believe this app is for anyone.
