App is great, not happy with compost containers
Kudos to the city of Regina for providing the Waste collection app. Well done! However, I have no accolades for their composting containers. I used the indoor compost container for a while but wasn’t happy to have bugs living in it. I came up with a simpler and extremely more cost-effective solution in which I place compostable materials into a plastic container that I keep in the fridge to slow the rate of decomposition. When the container gets full, I pour the contents into a compostable bag and keep it either in the fridge or the freezer. The city’s compost container now sits unused on a shelf. Additionally, the outdoor compost bin seems excessive for the one or two tiny bags of compostable materials that I throw out each week. Might it have been possible to provide one-quarter the number of outdoor bins for communal use? In my opinion, the city’s recycling program has unnecessarily (and ironically) introduced an excessive amount of plastic into our community.
