RoughAnimator - animation app

Still my favorite hand drawn animation app on iPad. A couple of brushes, a fill tool that can reference line art on another layer, a timeline and a camera.

Het is overzichtelijk, het is niet moeilijk, het is snel te leren en makkelijk in gebruik, in tegenstelling tot veel andere animatie programma’s. I was delighted to find this app after I wasted a lot of time on several others that sometimes missed the most obvious features like onion skinning. Since improved line smoothing was added to RoughAnimator, I can’t think of anything that it misses. No overpriced monthly / annual subscriptions, just a fair one-time no-nonsense purchase. A big thumbs-up!

And it just keeps getting better. I use it on an iPad Pro with Apple Pencil. I can work anywhere. It’s freeing in both location and mind. I do love hand drawn animation and cel animating, however simple I make it. And this app has the best interface for it by far.

RoughAnimator works intuitive if you know how to animate and it’s easy to pick up if you are new to animation. The clean design doesn’t distract you from focusing on what you want to animate. RoughAnimator plays nice with art created in procreate app. Just copy paste back and forth. Previewing you’re work renders fast. And the output possibilities are nice enough to complete your animation in other iPad OS apps or software on your PC or Mac. RoughAnimator werkt intuïtief als je kan animeren en het is gemakkelijk te leren als je nieuw bent met animatie. De interface is clean en leidt je niet af van wat je wil doen. RoughAnimator werkt mooi samen met procreate app. Je kan lagen kopiëren en plakken tussen beide apps. Previewed van je geanimeerde frames gaat snel en als je de animatie rendert kan je er genoeg kanten mee op in de iPad en op je PC of Mac

I would give 5 stars if you added line tools, because as of now, it is really hard to create straight lines, circles etc. That’s my only complaint, other then that, I love the app!

Many things are not refined and it seems like it’s just some beta-student-app.

I have this app now for a month I think and I’m disappointed. This because when I export the video it is in not such good quality. Especially if I post it on YouTube. Bit of a waste of money, because I want to share my animations. I also sent an email to the company, but no response was received. I just want to know how I can solve this....

For my use case, this is perfect. Rough Animator is performant, configurable and delivers predictable results. I’d ask the author to perhaps add a “dark mode” and tweak some more ui, but where would the “rough” be in this App? In all seriousness, I also own the Kdan stuff and the autodesk one but neither hold a candle to how great animating with this app feels. This is the procreate of animation apps, it’s the best one. Get this one, not the others. Yay!
