Scriptable is an automation tool that enables you to write scripts that integrates with native features of iOS such as files, calendars, reminders, documents and much more.
An extensive support for widgets enables you to write your own widgets using JavaScript and run the scripts on your Home Screen. Your widgets can show any data and be customised to look just the way you want.
With Siri Shortcuts you can present images, tables and more in Siri as well as making Siri read out loud a text when you run a script from a Siri Shortcut.
There's a growing gallery of scripts to get you started with Scriptable.
Here’s a few examples of scripts you can create:
- Ask Siri whether a web service is down.
- Create a widget that shows data from your weather station.
- Postpone the next event in your calendar half an hour.
- Check what is currently on TV.
- Manage a list of movies you would like to watch.
- Upload files to an image optimizer and store a URL to the optimized image.
- Receive a notification with the weather report every morning.
- Create todos with prefilled data in your favorite todo app using URL schemes.
Features include:
- Write and run JavaScript.
- Auto complete of variable names, functions, keywords and properties as you type.
- Access lots of native iOS features from your JavaScript code, including managing files, calendars, reminders, contacts, photos, location, pasteboard, web views and more.
- Create your own widgets. Your scripts run on the Home Screen without needing to open the app.
- Siri Shortcuts enabling you to present images, tables, websites, HTML and more in Siri as well as making Siri read out loud a text.
- Support for input and output parameters in Siri Shortcuts.
- Easily schedule rich notifications to run your scripts periodically.
- Work with files and directories from third party apps using File Bookmarks.
- Synchronise scripts to all of your devices using iCloud Drive.
- Scripts are stored as plain JavaScript files and can be browsed using the Files app.
- Assign one of over 800 glyphs and a color to a script to easily identify it in your directory of scripts.
- Run scripts directly on your Lock Screen and Home Screen using widgets.

Amazing!
Brilliant clear documentation and just a really polished product. It has made my shortcuts so much easier to write and debug as well as plugging gaps in the capabilities. It does require a bit of Javascript knowledge (particularly async callbacks) but well worth learning if you’re as frustrated as I was with the standard Shortcuts capabilities.
Combined with Pushcut the possibilities seem pretty limitless.
No WebAssembly support?
Even though the app claims to use JavaScriptCore, which supports WebAssembly, none of the Wasm APIs are available. Hugely missed opportunity, this could've been a five-star full-fledged IDE for all languages that support Wasm.
Pretty good
You can use it for widgets on home screen, remember the “scriptable” widget then select your script!
Brilliant is not the word!
This app has exceeded my expectations of how easy it is creating iOS widgets by code without the need of traditional developer tools. All thanks to Scriptable which has taken widget creating to a whole new level. Love it!!!
Fantastic app
This is one of my most heavily used apps. It makes the iPad and iPhone far more useful - enabling their use for tasks that would previously have required a separate computer.
It is difficult to overstate how useful it is to be able to develop and run arbitrary JavaScript on the device itself. The uses for this are wide-ranging, including implementing custom Siri commands far beyond the capabilities of the Shortcuts app, and easily creating arbitrary new Widgets on the home screen. Full access is provided to most of the more useful iOS features including the calendar, contacts, file manager, keychain, mail, messages, notifications, clipboard, photos, Safari, speech, and many others.
There are only two slightly annoying limitations.
The first is that there are relatively few library modules provided as standard, and it is tricky to add others (it is not possible to just “npm install” additional modules).
The second is that the built-in editor is extremely limited, e.g. without even basic find-and-replace capability. so for any non-trivial editing it is necessary to use another app. The developer is working on a new editor, so hopefully this latter complaint will be addressed soon.
There is also great support, both from the developer and the community.
Lots of fun
What a great idea this app is, although I have to admit I must have lost several days to tinkering with custom widgets! Well designed and actively maintained by the developer. Thanks!
Nothing can beat this(UNDERATED)
The thing about Color Widgets (why do they even spell it like that 😂) is that it is customizable but limited possibilities. Not few but limited. With scriptable, it is not like there is a lot. It is unlimited. With letters and numbers and symbols, you can make your dream widget, on top of this it is not only for widgets, but this is the main reason I use it) but you code things like the you PiP shortcut. It is the best. Only slightly annoying part is to find a script online for your widget. I recommend joining the r/scriptable on Reddit because they fix problems. Make a request and someone will probably code it for you. Well done Scriptable creators. UNDERATED
Do not update
Ha! The new update stated bug fixes so I updated my app and after that I can’t use the app because it created more bugs. I used it for PIP and the function is no longer available
This is amazing
So easy to use, and enables me to do things I could not do in Siri shortcuts. There's a reason this tool is so high on developer tools. 10/10 must have.
Custom Javascript Widgets
This app is truly incredible. With it you can easily run completely custom javascript widgets that open up so many possibilities never before seen on iOS. You can also create powerful automations using real code instead of trying to hack it together in Shortcuts.
10/10 would recommend.
