I was so happy to be able to easily import my Google calendar right into the skylight app. Unfortunately, it doesn’t transfer the color coordinated events in their colors, so you have to manually go in and change every single one, which took a large amount of time. There is no way to set tasks, reminders, or event alerts in the calendar which is pretty disappointing. I also wish you were able to just duplicate events that are repetitive but not in a set schedule so you can’t use the repeat option. The Skylight Calendar has the potential to be a great app but right now I’m pretty disappointed. It would be nice and time saving if the app opened right up to the calendar, but it doesn’t if you’re linked to other skylight accounts. Inside the calendar, I wish the default was the month view and that you could easily scroll between months instead of clicking the arrow. Feeling like we wasted so much money on this calendar as I prefer to stick with the Google Calendar app for its functionality. -- dangiulo2, 2025-01-24 ### *---- "East to use but….." It crashes if I try to upload more than 10 photos at a time which I can add 300 to Aura without any problems. It also sends you to an ad for their plus subscription if you try to send a video to an account without plus but without knowing that, it just unselects all my photos/videos and have to start over. So frustrating. The grandmas do love the frames though. I like that it plays the video sound and any length of video on plus of course, so on top of the initial purchase, you’re paying for a subscription. Both this one and Aura have their pros and cons. I wish someone would get together and find the perfect balance. There’s no way to view a list of chores created, you have to scroll through each day individually to see what is scheduled. You can edit chores but you can’t reassign the entire series. Without an overview of all chores and their schedules, it’s just terrible to try to plan and schedule additional things. I will give 4 stars just because there should more free stuff available for the price your paying for. Of course after you pay the membership you only get few stuff added, it does keep you organized and more clean space. The color coded is also good. The downside and reason for 2 stars is Skylight it trying to jump on the subscription business model and charge you a monthly fee to create albums and see videos all which are basic features that should not be charged a fee. As of a recent update they take up 25-35% of the screen with an ad requesting to join their Pro Plus subscription plan. You can’t “x” it out. They also now have random blurred photos aka ads throughout your album saying “plus” to make you join. In the matter of 6 months the ads and banners increase more and more for simple features and ruins the experience. Uploaded a picture of my game schedule and it seamlessly added all events to the calendar including locations. The rewards program has been a game changer for my young children, they love checking off chores and earning stars and dislike losing stars. My family hasn’t been able to dive in completely but one thing I have noticed and has been a huge hindrance is there is not an Apple Watch App. The hope for skylight calendar is to be our only calendar and not need others but without watch capabilities we’re required to keep two calendars synced. -- CoachLack, 2025-01-05 ### **--- "Pretty good, but some weak spots" Full disclosure, I’m an iOS engineer for over 10 years, so I’m a little biased. I hope this review is seen as an opportunity to improve some experiences, not just me being critical. Overall, the app is pretty decent! My gripes with it are fairly minor, there are just several of them that led to my 3 star review. Primary frustrations are relating to uploading photos (that whole experience is majorly lacking in UX awareness) and the new rewards system. It’s so difficult to figure out what my kids have redeemed stars on, when that should be sent immediately via push notification. There should also be an “activity log” where I can see what has been done throughout the day (ie. chores marked off/reassigned, events changed, rewards redeemed, stars earned, etc.). Lastly, no dark mode? At least not one that is apparent. Again, overall it’s decent! Really glad I bought the device, and the plus subscription is totally worth it. I’m excited to see how the device and companion app improve over time. Actually just had to drop my rating a little more. Turns out there are some big syncing issues that make the app more problematic than useful. Primarily if chores are reassigned on the frame, then marked as done, they just completely disappear from both (even when showing completed chores). This is a massive bug and creates a huge inconvenience with kids that are young enough to see it as a way of gaining stars without having actually completed the chores, such as my 7yo. Great concept, but really bad execution. Thanks for the response! One last bit of feedback I’d like to add is that there should be support for irregular occurrences. Being divorced, I rely on my organization tools like this to help remind me of things I need to do when my kids are with me, but don’t want to be reminded when they aren’t. Stuff like “check homework” or “pack a lunch” would be wonderful to set for specific days every other week, as an example. Having to create 5 different chores for each task and set them all to repeat weekly every 2 weeks is an awful experience. -- Niclaughter, 2025-01-05 ### *---- "Waste" Got this for a Christmas gift.
