Designed especially for international residents of Japan, the Sony Bank Open Account app provides you with a safe and secure way to open a bank account.
This app allows you to scan required documents, enter your personal information and submit your application directly from your smartphone in one sitting.
The Sony Bank Open Account app is not available outside of Japan. Applications made from outside of Japan cannot be accepted.
How to Apply for a Sony Bank Account
Step 1: Install the app
Step 2: Scan the required documents and enter your information
Step 3: Set the required passwords
Step 4: Submit your application
Step 5: Receive the application confirmation email from Sony Bank
* Only international residents of Japan can open an account with the Sony Bank Open Account app.
* Each customer is limited to one Sony Bank account.
* Please note that U.S. citizens or those with jurisdiction of residence in countries other than Japan will be required to submit additional documentation.

Need help
How to change from Japanese to English????
Can’t scan my residence card.
Please let there be another way to register for the bank. This app doesn’t work as it won’t let me scan my residence card.
Scam photos
Is impossible to scam photos in the app the images only burry
Do not open a bank account with Sony
Please don’t. They are liars. They will screw you over.
A first step, and then nothing
The app does the job in English; when successful, all the rest arrives in Japanese: letters, instructions, online banking apps... I don’t see the link t of advertising that all can be done in English

Can’t enter space in name
Why are you not allowing spaces in name? Seems a bit narrow sighted
WARNING! Do not open account
This bank will hold your money hostage! Whatever you do, do not open an account. They lure you in with their sweet talk, but do not believe their lies. I will be withdrawing all of my money, if they let me that is...
No other options
So system is great if everything works but when there is a dent or normal tear in your resident card you can’t open an account. Contacted the support chat but they say I have to go reissue a new card seriously, no way to apply in a different way other than the app. Same if your phone specs don’t match the app they don’t offer any other option. Great very useful system I hope they look into this.
