The Steam Chat app includes many key features of the desktop Steam client chat, including:
Friends List – See who’s in game or online at a glance. You'll see your custom categories and favorites bar just like you can on your PC. (repeated above)
Rich Chat – Your chats get even better with higher fidelity links, videos, tweets, GIFs, Giphy, Steam emoticons, and more.
Invite Links – Add new friends on Steam with a link. Generate an invite link you can text or email.
Customizable Notifications – Mobile notifications mean you'll never miss a message or game invite. You can customize your notifications per friend, group chat, and chat channel.
Group Chats -  Get everyone on the same page. Groups make it easier to do things like stay in touch with your communities and organize game night with your best friends.

1) 2 apps just for steam? nonsense
2) There was problem logging you in "Retry"

It keeps showing no matter what I do. Reinstall did not help. Even funnier is that notifications alert me that I received a message but I actually can't get into the app and respond.

Imagine you have one working app but volvo say nooo lets make another app just for chat and then make it unusable. 😆🤌🏻

The app is incredibly unresponsive, keeps disconnecting from Steam's servers, messages fail to send and load constantly. It will not notify you when a new message arrives, heck, it might not show up even if you open the app.

The app does its job. But that’s all. Videos with sound uploaded to a channel don’t play sound on mobile (iPhone 8). On iPad the app interface shrinks to aspect ratio of cellphone in the middle of screen which is… not so pleasant. And 20% of the time when I want to check messages in our gaming group, the service doesn’t work at all, can’t connect to Steam chat.
