I was given a Digital Subscription as a gift from my son this Christmas. I was notified of the gift, but no instructions or contact details whatsoever were attached. Since then, I have been unable to access any part of the magazine and have been involved in endless correspondence with the publishers. Accounts have been re-set, log ins reloaded, Apps deleted and uploaded again with no result. I have asked for the subscription to be cancelled and the payment returned to my son. Never Again.

### *---- "Slow, badly designed and full of bugs"
The magazine is great but the app… I am so done with it. 

Bugs left right and centre, some of which I reported 2+ years ago but in short: you can guarantee that whilst you’re reading, you’ll turn a page and the next spread will just be totally blank. Won’t load, nothing you can do will make it load. 

The featured stories on the app homepage sometimes change with every issue but sometimes sit there for 3-4 months and the archive section appears to be the only way to actually read the whole magazine, the rest of the app is just a jumbled selection. 

Not only that but half the time the app is just ridiculously slow to load even on a high speed internet connection. 

Great magazine but the rebuilt app launched last year (I think?) solved literally none of the problems and managed to create more. If I could digitally subscribe any other way, I would

New version has a number of issues for me.

Pages do not swipe across on iPad as clean/sharp as previous version.

Pages do not fill the screen, you can see parts of an adjacent page which distracting.

The table of contents has moved from the bottom of the screen to the top right hand corner and takes up far too much space. It was much better in the old version.

To add a book mark you have to use the menu in the top left hand corner and there does not seem to be an option to add a note.

The feedback option only works if you have email configured on that device.

All in all poor upgrade!

This is the second Bauer subscription I have had, and both times I have had problems trying to persuade the app not to charge me for magazines I had already subscribed to! But once you get in – which I have yet to do for this magazine – the pages are not optimised for an iPad, which means a lots of zooming and scrolling. Very disappointing.

I'm not sure that an App can really compete with a printed copy but this one is very good. I find the print quality very good and have no problems downloading. The content is well presented, the photography excellent and the design and format works well. Topical and relevant articles covering the heritage railway scene is consistently included and all upcoming steam events are listed. A super enthusiasts magazine in digital form!

The use of Great in this companies title is misleading. So far the latest version of the app has not delivered. Bad service on regular basis. Now having to download all past magazines. Fortunately for this mag that's not to many copies, but another mag I subscribe to via this same intermediary has many more copies so dread them 'upgrading' that app. Tried the 'restore' option but failed. Sadly this company does not reflect the quality of the magazines by Bauer Media. Don't be mislead either when you think you are emailing or phoning Bauer, as it seems all incoming contact is handled via GreatMagazines.

Disappointed with this App. I have used the one for Railway Modeller which is much more robust. On this one the lower buttons don't work properly as you can press the Contents button and scroll along the pages, but when you pick one it stays at the Cover page. If you try again and press Contents the bar disappears without doing anything. To find a page you then have to swipe many times and if you do too many it crashes.

A video link just took me out of the App. 

Otherwise when it works it is OK as you can zoom into photos, which is the main reason I purchased the App, also to reduce storing paper copies.

I am using an iPad and iOS 5.1.1 with 50+Gb available.

I am already a long time subscriber to the printed version of Steam Railway and thought I would try the iPad version because of the promise of extra features and videos. As far as I can see there are no extra features and some of the text on the advertising pages is very difficult to read even when blown up. Given how good some digital magazines are this is absolute rubbish and a very poor effort. Fortunately, I have only taken out a three month subscription which I will certainly not be renewing!
