Kanji Dictionary + Writing

Beschreibung

I started developing this app in 2010, to get me through JLPT, and it has been updated ever since. If I needed a feature, I added it. If it bugged, I unbugged. Most of my Japanese was probably learnt (on rush-hour, Tokyo trains) using this very app. Made by a learner for learners. Thanks for your support!
◆ Writing Tutor
View 6500+ kanji/kana interactive stroke order animations and be guided how to write each one. When ready, test your skills in study mode.

Full breakdown of kanji showing radicals, particles, similar kanji and compound nouns. Example sentences are broken down phrase by phrase, word by word.

"The only way I'd be more satisfied with this app is if it could just transmit the info directly into my brain.". App Store review.

I'm Justin. I moved to Japan in 2002 and I'm married to my Japanese wife (lovingly called "Spellchecker"). I've taken the JLPT tests up to N1 (yes, I was there) using this app. I speak, read and write Japanese fluently and I'm an overactive developer (nearly 40 years) who just can't turn his computer off and lead a normal life.

Best investment I’ve ever made

idkwakaranai on

This app honestly changed my life. I’ve been using it for years to study all the way to N1. It is ridiculously easy to use and customizable to fit your study goals. I can’t stop recommending it to people around me when they ask how I became so fluent. The only complaint I have is that I am currently trying to learn Spanish and cannot find anything half as good. I know this is a long shot but are there any plans to branch out to other languages or to make it open source ?

Perfect but …

I tried multiple apps to study, I really get bored and tired of them because of confusing transition and very eye straining designs. This one is simple and just getting to the point. Except there are some information wrong like same Kanji with different on, kun.

Great learning and communication tool

I originally bought this app for the study features and kanji practice which I think are good even though I do not use them so much. 😅 But I use the dictionary and translate features daily. Thank you for the great app.

Fixed the iphone glitch today 02/28/19

New update brought a glitch on to the application. Please update the application and i will consider the review. I paid for your application so please make this work. Thank you for making it work. But it cost me money and resources to wait for your application.

Great app

This app is generally amazing, perfect tool for studying JLPT specific kanji and vocabulary. They also have other decks with common kanji and kanji separated by grade level (1st grade, 2nd grade, etc.). I would like to just mention though that some of the example sentences are a bit strange. I was just studying N2 vocab and an example for 瓶詰 (bottling) had an example sentence about bottling semen. Hmmm...

The Best Kanji Learning Tool Available!

I have been living in Japan for a while and I have struggled trying to make time to study, or having to carry around books with me to practice on the train. This app has been a great investment! I can study at ease from wherever I am, and it also allows me to practice more. The dictionary is also really useful. I highly recommend it!

Great App

I’ve been using this as a supplement to RTK, simply adding kanji from the dictionary to my own sticky. Great for practicing how to write kanji (over 800 in 3 months...30-45 mins a day)

Highly recommended, very flexible.

Lots of decks included. Oodles of vocabulary as well as kanji. Only complaint would be to have the kanji appear in order of usefulness either for newspapers or JLPT(出る順). As it is, there are a lot of trees and such which appear early on in the deck, but only rarely on the JLPT or in real life reading.

Fantastic kanji practice app

Have been using this App for some years now and it’s by far my favorite kanji practice App. I occasionally come across a new method and play with that for a while; but I always find myself coming back to StickyStudy.

Good app, let down by poor examples and limited vocabulary

Teobg70 on

Japan

App has a good design, usability and innovative ideas (e.g. "Similar" kanji) but for this price I was expecting a much more extensive access to Japanese vocabulary; note I do not mean number ok kanjis, but rather examples of their use. Here below a list of weak areas; addressing those in the next versions would make this app worth the money. In this list I refer to: "Kanji" as the single kanji under study (e.g. 行) "Word" as a word containing the kanji under study (e.g. 行う、行く、旅行) "Sentence" as a sentence including one of the "words" Limited number of words using the selected kanji and often omitting examples of some of the listed readings Poor sentence examples. For instance 行き(bound for), gives the following sentence example: 行きましょうか. Also every time it gives a different example, e.g 毎年行きます (again unrelated to the actual entry 行き and instead related to to the verb 行きます). The example sentence should related to the word selected for that kanji, rather than a random one including the kanji Overall number Of example sentences from dictionary is very limited. App should integrate more extensive "free to use" dictionaries (Jim Breen, Tatoeba Example Sentences, etc). For reference, see Aedict App on Android, undisputed best app for studying Japanese, but not available on iOS "Similar" function is useful, but again list of examples is short Add JLPT info on deck category during test (preferably when the solution is shown). This is particularly useful for user customized decks that contains kanji from different categories
