Hands down, still THE best metronome on the App Store. Now let’s make it better: make it vst/auv3 compatible. Add a timer. Just those 2 things. Devs, I hope you’re reading this. I love the simple design, but those 2 features would put it over the top.
I use it every day. I like the versatility of multiple time signatures.
This app is stellar. Only gripe: Drag-and-drop reordering of presets is clunky and frustrating. Intuitive and highly flexible–very easy to make changes to subdivisions, accents, etc super quickly; helps me dial in the rhythmic feel to perfectly match the thing I’m practicing. Need to watch the tutorial about setting up songs so I can start using that feature. Also plays even when in the background, so I can use it simultaneously when I have my drone app open.
Nothing more to say; this thing is dang near perfect.
Like others have said, this is hands a down a great app. You will not need another. I’ve used it for many years. But some of us may be looking for a watch update. I’d pay for that. 😎 With an adjustable haptic amount would be especially cool. Hey Developers, You’ll notice there’s no market for this really. It would be yours for the taking. 🤣
Having so much control over the beats lets me use the metronome to test and practice my time rather than use the metronome as a crutch. It also has some mixed meter functions that make practicing something like John Adams much easier but I wish it was easier and quicker to make those programs.
Literally my favorite metronome that I’ve been using for probably 6 or 7 years. No other met has the options that I love about this app. Between the range of subdivisions and polyrhythms this app is amazing.
My guitar teacher suggested I buy this app because of its abilities to set and keep polyrhythmic time. The pleasant clave sound of the clicks is a huge improvement over the noises my prior free metronome app made. While it is a bit challenging to navigate and has many more features than I will likely ever need, the ones I use regularly have proven to be well worth the small purchase price. Musically I have improved by using this app.
I paid for Tempo Advance because it seemed there was ZERO support for it’s older brother, Tempo. In THAT app, constant crashes when trying to export any set list - native tempo file or text. So, I got Tempo Advance. From the word go, this is a VERY confusing metronome. I’ve played for years and the polyrhythms it creates are impressive, but sometimes you just want 16th notes over the 8th notes to help keep you in the pocket. This took me about 15 minutes to figure out. No big deal; learning curve, so this app is awesome and its just me. *sigh* I am a drummer on a worship team, so our repertoire is 80+ regarding quantity. I talked my drumming compadres on the worship team to get tempo (at first) because we could maintain a “database” of songs, and simply send the set list out every month. That did not happen as mentioned above. There are a few features that I just have not found in Tempo Advance, and they are pretty crucial. 1) Tempo Advance does not allow you to sort the songs alphabetically - scratch that - at ALL! MAJOR show-stopper for me, as we have 80+ songs! Why would you need it in in alphabetical order? Allow me to continue, 2) You can’t add songs from any list! This seems stupidly odd! In Tempo, I could “Add songs from any set list.” Not in Tempo Advance! Mr. Mangini is one of the most influential drummers in the world, but Frozen Ape needs to focus their efforts on keeping their customers happy, not Mr. Mangini. They are sucking at doing that. So, why such a “good” rating for such a “bad” review? The metronome is amazing if you only want to practice. It helps in learning polyrhythms, as it states. It does a lot of things well, but it does not come close with things that are practical. I wished I’d never spend my money on it. Tempo Metronome did everything I needed, and I don’t have to recreate my MASTER list (even if I can’t share it; but, hey! it doesn’t matter which app you have - none do!)
