HENRY SHUKMAN teaches mindfulness and awakening practices to a wide range of students from all traditions and walks of life. Henry is an authorized Zen Master in the Sanbo Zen lineage, and is the Spiritual Director of Mountain Cloud Zen Center in Santa Fe, New Mexico. His struggles and traumatic experiences as a youth, combined with a spontaneous awakening experience at 19, paved the way for Henry to develop a well-rounded approach to meditation.
On the journey of THE WAY, you can learn to:

THE WAY works through a series of daily guided meditations and talks along a single path of practice. Through these guided meditations you will explore with Zen Master Henry Shukman: teaching from ancient Buddhist traditions, finding peace and unconditional wellbeing in the heart of our lives, learning how to sit with and process negative emotions, healing from past traumas, uncovering deep joy in the bare fact of being alive, discovering a deep and connected presence, understanding insights into non-duality and awakening to the true nature of reality. All grounded in modern mindfulness and ancient Zen wisdom.

I’ve been meditating for several years now with online apps but bouncing around between different teachers and sessions depending on how I was feeling that day. I was already familiar with Henry’s work and felt connected with his approach so I’m loving that combined with the structure of The Way and feel able to trust the process more than other experiences. Thanks so much to Henry and The Way team for pulling this together and making it so widely available. And please come to Australia!

If you want to immerse yourself in clear meditation teachings without dogma, I think The Way and Waking Up are the only apps you need. Use The Way for your daily practice, which will be well complemented by the broad teachings and conversations on Waking Up.

Absolutely love the concept; and Henry as a teacher. I get way too overwhelmed by other meditation apps that have seemingly countless sections and subsections to navigate and choose from; it feels exciting at first but then I end up doing none of it due to decision fatigue. I want it chosen and curated for me; which this solves.

I have tried so many meditation apps over the years and have found it difficult to maintain a practice. This has all fallen away since finding The Way. The teaching in the app is clear and approachable and you get a genuine sense of Henry being there with you in the meditation, imparting his hard won wisdom, not just going through the motions. The single pathway is clear and easy to follow and because of this I am now meditating between 20-40 minutes a day and feeling genuine peace and progress in my practice. A deep bow to you, Henry!

This app is simply wonderful. I came across Henry Shukman on Tim Ferris and Kevin Rose podcasts. Then I read his book which is one of the most enjoyable reads I’ve ever had. Really up there with Michael Singer’s Surrender experiment which is one of the best books I’ve ever read. Henry’s voice is sublime and you can just feel the genuine kindness and compassion coming from his heart. He is a real treasure of a human being and I am so grateful he has put the effort into this app. I simply love it and am finding it so helpful and better in so many ways than current apps. To go on a journey, it’s like having a meditation teacher, unlike other apps which are simply all the same guided meditations. This is so much better

Simple, Deep Guide to Meditation and Life

I have been practicing for a couple years via Waking Up, where I found Henry Shukman’s meditations. I’ve found his guidance is very powerful and precise, inviting us to be with all of our experience, emphasizing compassion and acceptance of what arises, as well as recognition of the more ultimate selfless nature of awareness. While I think Waking Up is an incredible resource, The Way really has simplified some of the confusion that has come with navigating an array of similar yet different approaches and lexicons. There are so many beautiful teachings out there, but I think I’ve found a few that I want to focus on exploring. I’m using The Way for my meditation sessions—with some daily meditations from Sam on Waking Up—and listening to Joseph Goldstein’s amazing Dharma talks on Waking Up. I’m also reading Joseph Goldstein’s Mindfulness. Selfishly I do have a suggestion 🤪. At the moment we can do 10 or 20 minute meditations. I would like the option to customize the meditation length further. Preferably by adding mostly silence to the end, with the ending guidance (“move fingers, open your eyes…”) still coming at the end of the chosen duration. Thank you so very much to the Shukmans for creating this. ~Kyle
