A very professional and supportive app which I truly recommend. For me it was way too advanced and I don’t want to spend a lot of time reading or watching a ‘How to use the app’. I wish I could choose the functions I need. Or that there was a basic beginner mode.

### ***** "Nice to write in. Sync is laggy"
Great tool for writing. Simple. Clear. And easy to see progress in number of characters. Sync between iPad, Mac and iPhone is laggy. Almost unusable. You cannot count on documents synching corretly, which is strange since it uses iCloud for syncing.

Great writing experience, really like using it, however it lacks some pretty basic writing stuff: tables (which has been in other Markdown-flavoured tools forever), as well as a Table of Content is really too bad. No way to write total number of pages in header/footer.

The export features are a bit meh as well ... all the styles are pretty outdated, and while you can write your own stylesheets, it's somewhat cumbersome.

### ***** "I really love it"
Two weeks after I tested it I moved all my writting to Ulysses. I use both a Macbook and an iPad to do my writting and Ulysses makes my experience smooth and distraction free. What I currently work on are a few articles and a novel and U is perfect to organise my writting, set goals and structure notes (great note app for your iPhone). I must say the experience on tablet is way better than the one on dekstop, touch interaction with your text is easy and somwhat natural, so I ended up touching my screen everytome I’m switching over to mac. Overall, I’m in love with this product.

I already bought the app prior to the subscription-based model and now I have to add an expensive subscription. The fee is almost on par with the entire Microsoft Office suite. Like so many has already said. Shame on you! It’s a dealbreaker for this former great tool.

Former loyal user here.

Why on earth should I lease a writing app? What major upkeep and storm of added features could you possibly have in store that would justify this greedy shift? I would’ve GLADLY paid for newer versions, Ulysses 2, 3, 4, every once in a while, yearly or whatever. I would’ve used Ulysses forever. I would pay and support your updating/bug fixing/feature adding — when they were ready, maybe wrapped up in an even nicer interface. I will pay for a job done, as I did when I bought Ulysses in the first place. You know, back when you seemed to actually respect us, your (then) loyal users. Shame on you. Goodbye Ulysses.

I was a paid user of Ulysses before it went subscription-only – in the worst way the developers could EVER conceive doing it. Zero respect for their loyal, paying users and fans.

Overall I really enjoyed Ulysses. What made me decide to abandon it, was a bug that created hundreds of document/sheet conflicts. And "best" of all: I was forced to fix all these face sync conflicts BY HAND, one by one. Their support was of no help and it felt like they couldn't care less that I had to spend HOURS resolving a sync conflict that never WAS a real sync conflict. How do I know? Because it could label a revision/version as being from "Heidi's MacBook, 7 Nov. 2015" ... The thing is: Heidi didn't HAVE a MacBook in 2015 – so how on earth should there be a revision/version from back then?

Nope. Ulysses had a bug. A serious one. And the developers asked me to resolve it myself.

On top of that: a forced subscription, with ZERO respect for the customers, people, who helped build the foundation for their company.

Shame. Really.

This used to be the best writing app for the Mac platform and, in many ways, it still is. The new subscription model makes it significantly more expensive, however. It still works well but the competitors now also produce markup writing tools that can be had for the fraction of this price.

I’ve read the articles about their reasoning, but it’s still a deal-breaker for me
