Good for budgeting, bad for tracking and analysis.
I’ve been using YNAB for more than a month as my daily budget app. I have set up all its key features, except the banking link option, due to geo restrictions outside of the US. That means all of my transactions are being done manually, which is no pain at all.
So...All the budget features are amazing. I’ve been able to set up a Savings Goal til December-209, also I’ve kept my credit cards and bank accounts updated day by day.
But what YNAB is lacking is the ability to teach you what you’re doing with your money... the lack of days as a period option in the NetWorth graph, is just a missed look feature for heavy users.
Beign able to download all transactions ti an Excel Sheet could’ve be a nice feature too.
Nevertheless the App is great and will definitely help you to make your dollars be as efficient as possible.
We’re finally saving money!!
We used to go over budget by $1,500 some months 😳 since using YNAB were under budget every single month and are even saving and investing money! Assigning the money to categories is so helpful because we know exactly how much we have available and the color coded bars to let us know when we’re close to overspending is great for my ADHD brain.
Started off great
When I first started using YNAB I loved it. It was helpful and kept me organized and accountable. About 9 months ago my bank lost connection and I was unable to get it relinked. I reached out for help multiple times with no resolution. So most of this year has been a waste for tracking with YNAB and a waste of the nearly $100 subscription. I’ve also asked numerous times for a refund since I’ve paid for a service I was unable to use, my request was ignored. I was finally able to relink my account however most of the transactions this year won’t import so currently according to YNAB I’m in the red. It will take too much time to reconcile plus with the increase in subscription price and lack of support I received, I won’t be renewing.
The Best
The best budget app available period. YNAB will assist you manage your money. I have tried them all and nothing is comparable. It has a learning curve at first but once you figure it out you’re in control of your money! Only suggestion I have is credit card utilization feature, seems like it would be easy to add this feature.
Simply the Best
Faithfully using YNAB will train your brain to think in terms of money being a zero sum game. Sorry, unless you are the federal government, this is your reality. Might as well make peace with it and get good at it.
Unbelievable!
We started using YNAB at the advice of our daughter and I didn't really think anything would change. I was absolutely incorrect!! For years I have had to transfer money from savings to pay credit cards until we were paid and it never really went back into savings. I had so much anxiety! With this app I can pay my credit cards at any moment because the money for each purchase is already accounted for in each credit card's category. We were able to save pretty quickly for last minute income taxes, we have money for our monthly bills the month before they are even due and we just planned a last minute vacation and have most of the money available now to pay for it. There is a learning curve but don't get frustrated. It works!! Support is patient and has been incredibly helpful. No one has ever said they can't help and are always there as long as I need them to help me understand how it works. This is a class A app and company. It has changed EVERYTHING for us in terms of our finances. So grateful!! 👏🏼
Account connections required third party - doesn’t work and risky
After putting in all of my information and agreeing to the shady terms of service from Plaid - none of my accounts can connect (despite having successful logins within YNAB). YNAB then links to a bunch of troubleshooting articles that are difficult to navigate and none of them address these issues. Now they and their third party services collected my credentials and my personal info while delivering zero of the promised service in this shady app.
Couldn’t connect any of my accounts
I was excited to try the app because of all the good reviews and got a free trial. However, I run into an error every time I try to connect my accounts. Thanks for a free trial, but I could not even make the app work as it should…
Doesn’t Work Half The Time
This app for tracking your finances was useful at first, but as time went on regular transactions started to forget their categories and then transaction information stopped entirely. We now have to manually check every single transaction and categorize it ourselves. I don't suspect we'll keep using this with the price increase to $109.00/yr it's just too much work. Highly recommend you check other apps out before YNAB.
Outage for over 1 month
I have been a true YNAB fan & customer for 10 years and have recommended it to many friends. For an entire month my transactions have been down, I pay for the year so for an entire month I am not getting my money’s worth. Use every dollar, they have better transactions and are able to do without transactions for free.
