I did a lot of research for this. I wanted a markdown editor with preview that can sync between devices especially with Dropbox for no subscription. I also wanted to be able to readily share stuff as a nice-looking PDF. This syncs great for me. I get to use this as an editor without being locked in for a sync vendor. Makes my life a lot easier. I am a longtime SimpleNote user because of its library features and cross platform support, but have become increasingly dissatisfied with it not having a toolbar on iOS and now dealing with CAPTCHA on Windows. I played with several Markdown editors, but they didn’t have the library features I needed. Then I discovered 1Writer. It’s nearly perfect and the price is right. I still use a couple of apps for occasional PC use, but 1Writer maintains my library now.

I first downloaded 1Writer over a decade ago, and still use it on a weekly basis. It keeps everything I write synced to my Nextcloud server via WebDAV and support markdown formatting. Love it.

This app is fantastic. One of its best features is how it will remember where you last left the cursor in a document when you open another. You can swipe out of a draft and come back to it right where you left off. This and being able to organize everything into files has made it one of my most used apps because of how easy it makes writing.

### ***** "Nextcloud powered notes syncing!"
I self host Nextcloud and I can use the WebDAV syncing to point at the notes folder on my server. And now I can use the same notes everywhere without relying on a proprietary syncing service or iCloud. 

This is what I’ve been looking for to pair with Typora for iOS/Mac/Linux notes taking bliss!

This app is awesome and i use it every day to write rust code and llm prompts on my phone while not at my computer. I love the backtick button, it helps me a lot. here are some ideas to improve the app: 1. Can you please help us benefit from 1Writer on Apple Watch by making complications and a watch app to record on the go? That would be really great for cases where you’re running without your phone and just want to take a quick note. 2. Minor issue: in night mode, the search box text is still dark, so you can’t see what you’re typing in the search box at night. Could you invert the search box text color to white if the night mode is on? 3. (Maybe too hard) How could we connect our GitHub accounts to 1Writer and essentially use this app as an IDE? 4. Can we please please have horizontal lines? They don’t seem to work because the first 2 dashes ligature and then the third dash doesn’t make a markdown hline.

The documentation was unclear, and I wanted to save the next person some time: as of now this app is incompatible with files stored in Google Drive. I have Google Drive linked with my local (iOS) file system, and 1Writer even recognizes that directory exists, but it will not access Google Drive. 

If this behavior changes, I’m sure this app would be perfect for my needs!

Luv this app. Runs w/o bugs and handles all my txt doc needs so I am not tied to Apple notes app. I sync w/ free version of Dropbox. Using it for >3 yrs. Perfect!

### ***** "Big fan of this app"
One feature that feels missing: when opening a file from Dropbox, there’s not an indication of whether that file is the current version until the app finishes syncing. It only takes a few seconds to sync, but that’s enough time to make an edit that will generate a Dropbox “conflicted” duplicate of the file.

If there were a visual “syncing” indicator, or if Dropbox files weren’t editable until syncing completed, that would clarify that 1Writer is working in the background, which isn’t clear currently.

### ****- "Very useful app but buggy for me since 4/2023"
I've been using 1Writer as an iOS mobile companion to Zettelkasten's The Archive app on 2 Macs for plain-text database syncing in iCloud. [Prior to using The Archive on Mac, I was using nvUltra and before that, nvAlt / Notational Velocity. And originally my database was in Dropbox but there were some issues having the database on Dropbox on the Mac before I started using The Archive.]

I've been mostly very satisfied with 1Writer. My 1 reservation is that starting in April 2023, and recurring regularly (at least once a week?), 1Writer on iPhone (but not on iPad, but I use it less often in iPad) loses its connection to my database folder in iCloud. When this happens, I need to add it back to the Folders screen (by tapping Add Folder button and choosing the iCloud option) and then set my database folder again as the default folder (by going to Settings > Default Folder.)

The developer was very responsive in quickly giving me this fix. (Deleting and reinstalling 1Writer also fixes the problem for the moment.) But it's getting frustrating to have to do this so often. There hasn't been an update for 11 months...

I can edit my documents directly in Dropbox, iCloud or OneDrive while I’m away from my computer and have time to work on them. My changes are immediately synced. It’s an incredible benefit for working on articles, notes and code. It’s definitely a developer’s assistant.
