## Aiko Description
High-quality on-device transcription. Easily convert speech to text from meetings, lectures, and more.

The transcription is powered by OpenAI's Whisper running locally on your device. Nothing leaves your device.

You can export the transcription as subtitles too. It has a word-replacement feature to let you automatically fix common mistakes.

Aiko favors accuracy over speed.

It does not do live transcription while recording.
It does not currently have speaker detection.

■ FAQ

‣ Can I edit the text in the app?

I don't plan to support any editing. Export the transcription and edit it in a proper text editor.

‣ Why is the app so large?

The app delivers the highest quality transcription on the market for 100 different languages. Rather than asking why it's so large, the real question is how is it so small.

‣ Why is the transcription so slow?

The app favors accuracy over speed. However, performance is expected to improve in the coming months.

‣ Why must I keep the iOS app open while it transcribes?

iOS apps are fundamentally restricted from operating in the background for extended periods.

‣ Can I delete some of the languages to save space?

This is unfortunately not possible. The model has all the languages stored together in a way that makes it impossible to remove just some languages.

The app uses the Whisper medium or small model on iOS depending on available memory and the large v3 model on macOS.

This app has totally exceeded my expectations: I fed into it audio files in which I was murmuring and mumbling while half asleep, and while I was groggy, while I was going for a walk and recording my thoughts, while I was playing my guitar - and each time the app produced a near-perfect transcription.
My only worry is that it is so good that it will be removed once Microsoft has got its act fully together.

I needed to write up an hour long conversation with a coleague, which would have takend many hours. Aiko did the job in about half an hour and I'm delighted. It was accurate and concise, it ignored all the 'ums' and 'ahs' and even the interruption when someone came to the door! It did auto detect our language as Welsh, which was interesting but quickly remedied by choosing English.
And the best bit - it's free!

My expectations are that ‘no’ transcription Apps would be 100% accurate, and that’s true for Aiko. However, the accuracy exceeded my expectations and overall I think this is an excellent App. 

It would be very useful if the software could recognise different voices and insert Speaker 1 / Speaker 2 / etc prior to each piece of transcription. It would also be useful if it used more line breaks, as it tends to produce large amounts of block text. Maybe additional features such as this will be added over time. 

Regardless, this App has been incredibly useful and a big time-saver.
