You can now have a virtual star chart in your pocket. Look through the eyes of your iPhone or iPad* to see a high-tech window into the whole visible universe.

All you have to do is point your AR enabled device* at the sky and Star Chart will tell you exactly what you are looking at.

Using state of the art GPS technology, an accurate 3D simulation of the visible universe, and a great deal of technical wizardry, Star Chart calculates – in real time - the current location of every star, planet and moon visible from Earth and shows you precisely where they are; even in broad daylight!

Star Charts features include:
- Just point and view. When you hold your device up to the sky, Star Chart will automatically start tracking your movements to match the sky *.

- Alternatively, look around the sky using finger gestures – perfect for armchair astronomers!

- In a single app of less than 30MB, Star Chart dynamically scales its visuals and capabilities across all iOS devices to meet the high end capabilities of a retina display iPad while also running smoothly on the earliest iPhones and iPods.

- Accurately depicts all the visible stars of the northern and southern hemispheres - a total of approximately 120,000 stars!

- Fly to and explore all the planets of the solar system, their moons and the sun all rendered in beautiful 3D with state of the art visual effects. 

- Using the powerful Time Shift feature, simply tap the time button and smoothly shift up to 10,000 years forward or backward in time.

- Displays all 88 constellations, with constellation imagery based on the beautiful artwork by 17th century astronomer Johannes Hevelius.

- Includes the complete Messier catalogue of 110 exotic deep sky objects.

- Tap on anything in the sky and get the facts on what you are looking at, including distance and brightness.

- Very powerful zoom function, lets you view the sky in extra detail, using intuitive finger gestures.

I really, REALLY wished this app worked as advertised. The app has not been updated in at least 5 years! The user manual is not available in the app or on their server. The location service is totally inaccurate. It locates me 20+ miles away from my actual location. No way to communicate with the company. So good luck on any purchases made.

While I *did* once enjoy using this app in the past, it has developed a number of weird glitches. However, the app is no longer being maintained by the developer and appears to have been abandoned. As a result, these problems are never addressed. Star Chart is no longer a very good or trustworthy app.

I use this app occasionally and am no budding astronomer, just a casual enthusiast. For that reason the app is good. But I got curious about the current Atlas comet so I paid for the upgrade and they don’t have that one!

Purchased the satellite upgrade and it fails to install and crashes the app. Also purchased the comet upgrade and it doesn’t include C/2023 A3. And then I came here and saw the app hasn’t been updated in 8 YEARS!! I expect a refund, $1.99 for comets and $4.99 for satellites. Now. If not I’ll contest the charges with my cc company. Please decommission this app! DO NOT PURCHASE UPGRADES!!!

This app was recommended to me by me middle school Astronomy teacher 7 years ago. I don’t use this app as often, but it’s fun to pull out with friends occasionally at night and find a few constellations.
The app is really easy to use and understand. 
The AR function that rotates the sky as you rotate your phone is pretty accurate.
I wouldn’t say it has the most diverse catalog of constellations, but for casual use it’s great.

This has a lot of features that look really neat. However, the basic function—showing you the names of the stars you’re currently looking at—never works. I can never get the app to calibrate properly to the direction I’m pointing in. I will point my phone right at the Moon, for example, and the app says it’s something else, and the Moon is on a completely different part of the sky. It makes identifying stars impossible. I want to like this app, but I can’t use it. 😞
