Several button layouts are available in the Options so that even beginners can handle complicated controls. ●PRACTICE MODE AVAILABLE And those who are just starting out. Practice Modes are also included for learning the stages! ● TWO GAME MODES Two fully-featured game modes: Smartphone Mode,with a new character, revamped character designs and original story! and Arcade Mode, a port of the arcade shooter classic. Ok, so there's no denying that this is yet another of Cave's fine Shmups with refreshing side-scroll action as apposed to vertical scroll. Action, graphic-art, music and presentation are all top-notch only requiring an update to HD (not a separate purchase but an update)... However in contradiction the IAP's make this one of Caves weaker titles and is a bridge too far. The game is already highly priced for an App Store game without the IAP's and as a rule I usually only buy Apps without IAP's and already regretting this one and the Black label Game game (owning most of Cave's games). Frankly paying for continues is shamefully wrong and perverse. Also can we have an option for real 'full screen' please - no boarders, no frames, no postage stamp sized impression of action gaming on the screen. It just feels like you playing a game through a square keyhole at times. Others use the 'full screen' like Raiden Lagacy/Fighters (Dot Emu). It's not so hard to do and this is the only negative with Cave Shmups. An option for either with or without the horrendous frame/boarder will give the gamer the choice and thus please everyone; if you like the frame boarder then switch frame boarder 'on'... if the gamer does not like the overly obtrusive frame boarder then switch it 'of' for blissful full-screen-game-action euphoria instead. -- Star1child, 2015-11-01 ### ***** "Favourite iOS shmup" Easily, by a country mile. In fact, this is genuine arcade standard action. Deathsmiles is even more mental than the usual Cave lunacy. The frenetic super nova of effects is perfectly matched by superb, heart pumping retro tunes and topped off by cute and squeaky female Japanese voices. The cast of so-called angels ( they look more like the staff from a high class, themed brothel), adds variation to proceedings, and the parade of monsters and locations is eclectic and generous. The story mode is very well handled, with some excellently designed cut scenes and top notch manga artwork. One thing I would say is that there's no way that's a cat. It's a baby hippo if anything!
