## Australian Taxation Office Description
The ATO app allows you to manage your tax and super affairs on the go – making tax simple & easy.

For a personalised tax and super experience, you will need:
- a myGov account linked to the ATO
- to register your device by providing and verifying an Australian mobile number and an email address.

With the ATO app, you can: 
- follow your 2024-25 tax return from start to finish, including checking prefill information, tracking the progress of your return and its outcome
- view in real-time when lodgments and payments are due, and seamlessly action them via our online services
- set up quick login using your device’s security features like face and fingerprint recognition
- view messages in real-time when important changes are made to your ATO record and to verify certain actions before they are submitted
- lock your ATO record if you see fraudulent activity, to keep it safe
- verify if a call claiming to be from the ATO is genuinely from us
- view your tax accounts, with links to our online services to view transactions, create payment plans or pay
- see an overview of your super balance and accounts
- view your employment income and superannuation contributions required from your employers
- check your personal, business (sole traders only) and registered agent’s details
- access our most popular tools.

Our most popular tools include:
- myDeductions: record your work expenses as an employee or sole trader. Sole traders can also record income. At tax time you can easily upload your myDeductions records to your tax return or email a copy to your tax agent.
- Tax withheld calculator: calculate the amount of tax to withhold from salary and wage payments.
- ABN Lookup: search for an Australian business number (ABN).
- Business performance check: compare your business with similar businesses in your industry using the latest Small business benchmarks.

The ATO app can automatically send usage data to help improve the app. The data we collect doesn’t identify you and you can choose to turn this off at any time in your app’s settings.

GPS can be used to record trips in myDeductions. Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.

To record a trip in myDeductions using the GPS option, the app needs access to your device location.

Received an SMS regarding checking something ATO related. I attempted to sign into the ATO app however I was asked to sign in again (note when I did this last time I used PassKey). Used PassKey again, app doesn’t allow me to sign in as stated the PassKey option wasn’t ’a strong enough option’ and asks me to sign in again.

What’s the point of supporting PassKey if I can’t use PassKey? I have disabled all other methods of log in. The Digital ID option won’t work either, and you can’t remove yourself from the app unless you either revoke the device or delete the app and try again.

Can’t even log in. Filled out login details using myGov id and it comes up with an error every time. Works perfectly fine on the web version. The app needs fixing.

The ATO along with MyGov and MyGov ID make up an unholy trinity of poorly configured apps, the developers obviously are not reading the feedback.  If you are an Australian citizen who has always lived at the same address and has kept one phone number it possibly works ok. If you don’t have an au passport, move house, change jobs / phone numbers be prepared for hours of fruitless pain.  Whilst recovering from Covid I thought I would have another go at setting up my account.  I came to an 2 secrets that you share with the ATO page, my super provider could have been one, and the other my bank account, although I have changed banks but I was hopeful of getting progress. Don’t worry ATO app designers have addressed that problem, when you get to this page on a mobile device the keyboard is oriented landscape not portrait, and if you turn your device to landscape the text boxes move out of the way so don’t bother trying to enter data in the same place. 
Poor quality products like these are why so many are not claiming there rebates, they are more likely to be immigrants who have had to change addresses and jobs more often.  
I will be forced to do my return on paper this year because of this app and the other myGov offerings that support it.

Laura Pepper had no duty care of my mental state and used the olympics as a reason she didn’t get Back to me. Depression and anxiety is a horrible combination and when the government agency that u would think would be.trained and aware well it was an experience I will never forget

When login to myGov is showed ATO as linked service. When pressed on it, asking for linking code. If ATO is linked, why need to have linking code? There is no way to find linking code myself. So I called hotline and they cannot find my info using Medicare and VicRoads. How can they cannot find the information after providing every details. I am so disappointed with this application and spent 30 minutes for just to try linking code and also not successfully.

There are problems adding vehicle trips though. Adding a vehicle is fine but this version no longer gives the option of adding a trip - ATO website instructions only refer to an old version of the app.

I attempted to sign in to my account and was told that I needed to ring a number with my TFN handy. Attempted to ring that number twice and was told by the automated teller the number is unable to be reached at this time. All round ridiculous.
