Carly — OBD2 car scanner

Great app and great support from Carly team.

Think twice before purchase the OBD. You are unable to do any of the coding that is actually useful and advertised. User experience is really bad and the app us unusable. Customer support is a disaster, no way to cancel subscription… they dont care about user satisfaction or experience, but they do about subscription and money. You have to send them an email month before subcription ends to beg them to cancel. This is the first app on the market that has that shady model without option for the user to manually cancel it in the app.

I am honestly shocked that at the moment of writing this review the app has a 4,9/5 rating. I don’t intend to go in lengths with this review since there a couple of good blog posts explaining why Carly is actually rather poor choice (functionality, “shady” practice with pricing/subscription etc). I’d only like to list three things: 1) I bought the all brands option (~115€) and it only ever worked (somewhat) good for my Mini. For everything else I tried (Chevy, Alfa, Hyundai) the app was basically useless. Moreover, even for Mini - reading/monitoring engine parameters is implemented quite poorly with quite a number of parametrs named confusingly or even left in german. 2) You buy a product and Carly treats it like some kind of an advertising platform constantly occupying part of the screen promoting their “smart mechanic” feature for additional X EUR. 3) In order for the app to work it demands a location info of the phone. C’mon guys :) - you need location info in order to connect to your dongle over Bluetooth. It’s really a shame that individuals that invested their time and money in building a full OBD portable solution manage it so badly. I kindly suggest to rethink your business model and how your product is managed - imho, at the moment it’s really not adding much value to anyone buying it.

Ne preporucijem aplikaciju, kupio sam licencu za sve automobile(120€), na neke automobile se ne moze spojti, kodiranje na vecini vozila ne funkcionira, na bmw f30 nisam mogao iskodirati apsolutno nista, nema kodiranje injektora, na neke vw se uopce ne zeli spojiti, na opel takoder, na vw vecinom nisam uspio kodirati nista. Nakon godinu dana sto istekne licenca automatski naplate opet licencu(120€) bez ikakve obavjesti i najave i naravno ne zele vratiti novce makar aplikacija ne radi kako treba.

I like the app and the tool, but customer support is a disaster. I was double charged for the same service, and no way to sort this out. I didn't have access to my features for a few days because my ALL BRANDS (119,99€) expired. Nothing was happening for a couple of days, so I activated a VAG licence (34,99€). Then in ten days, I noticed that ALL brands got automatically renewed for the total price on top of the already existing VAG license. Now I have access to VAG features with both. Customer support is trying to get away with it saying it never expired, and I got an email that my license is no longer valid. After sending the proof of that, they are not replying. Funny and a bit tragic business that they are willing to lose a happy (long-term) customer for over 35€

Great app for VW cars, only minus is that you can’t see injectors values!
