For the last week I have been playing for about 5 minutes and then the screen will just go white and the only way to get rid of this is by closing down the game and reopening it. From the very start, players are thrown into a city where conventional planning is entirely optional. Residential zones are placed on the tops of mountains, while commercial districts float in mid-air. The infrastructure defies physics, with roads that twist into impossible shapes and bridges that lead nowhere. Managing the city’s resources is a surreal challenge. Power plants are fuelled by the laughter of children, leading to blackouts whenever schools are in session. Water supply comes from clouds, which must be harvested by citizens during scheduled "rain collection festivals." Waste management involves catapulting rubbish into neighbouring towns, prompting frequent diplomatic crises. Public transport is equally baffling. Trains glide above ground like maglevs but can only travel in straight lines, resulting in frequent derailments when encountering even the slightest curve. Buses operate underwater, inexplicably transporting citizens through a network of subterranean rivers that appear and disappear at random. The city’s economy runs on whims and fancies. Taxes are collected in the form of abstract concepts like "joy" and "curiosity," making budget planning a whimsical affair. Public services fluctuate in quality based on the alignment of the stars, with hospitals operating flawlessly during a full moon and completely shutting down during solar eclipses. Visually, "Cityscapes" is a feast for the eyes but a puzzle for the mind. Skyscrapers twist and dance, parks float above the clouds, and pedestrians exhibit bizarre behaviours, such as walking backwards or forming impromptu flash mobs in the middle of busy intersections. Despite its nonsensical gameplay, "Cityscapes" is strangely captivating. It provides a uniquely chaotic sandbox where the rules of reality are suspended, offering endless amusement and confusion.
