### ***** "App has its challenges on iphone"
I now have this on both my iPad and iPhone. As another reviewer noted 6 years  ago, it is sometimes difficult to move from verbs back to the main dictionary. Frustrating - and it doesn’t seem to be very smart. 
I installed this new app recently because the one I purchased in 2013 froze on my new iPhone. It was simpler just to buy the newer version and with that, I lost all my history for the last ten years, on my iPhone at least.

Brilliant app if you are studying German. Conjugates verbs, provides example sentences and if you are studying overseas you don't need to be connected to the Internet to look up words.

In general I have found this an extremely useful app. My only reservation is that in the smartphone version it is now more difficult to move from verbs back to the main dictionary.

This dictionary is easy to use and puts words in context so that you can find the best translation. It also shows verb conjugations in a variety of tenses. It is faster than using a paper dictionary and much lighter!

I have always been a fan of the Collins German-English dictionary, and this app enables me to take it with me wherever I go. Overall the app is simple to use, quick to search and presents the entries nicely. My only quibble is that it would be great to have a link directly from a verb/noun listings to their conjugations. For example, "zurücksehen" is marked as irregular but you have to know to look up "sehen" to find the irregular forms.

All in all, this is a very good dictionary, with useful translations and sample sentences.
But all this is for nothing if the app doesn't launch. At the moment, it requires regular reinstall action, in order to operate.
Very disappointing.

After using this app for many years, I'm loving the new changes to the UI. The search function is super intuitive - none of the hassle of switching languages or between definition/conjugation tabs all the time because all the information is just there in front if you. Great!

Avoid until there is a bug fix- the latest version refuses to open. Unbelievable that the developers could release an update that renders the app useless. When they fix this then yes my earlier review below will stand:

Indispensable ! Don't waste your time with any $4 wordlist! This is a real dictionary and worth the extra. Why? Because a wordlist dictionary won't help you- what you need is a dictionary that shows you how to use the words in actual language applications. This does that. And it's lighter and much quicker than a large Collins Dictionary but has virtually identical definitions and examples (some omissions but they hardly matter). If you are learning German or revising as I am, do yourself a favour and buy this!

Since upgrading to the new version of this app I've been very unhappy. It's slow if it starts up at all and I bought the previous version in French, Spanish and German because the interface was beautiful and user friendly and the vocabulary broad. I feel I have been robbed of my net 60 dollars since the upgrade was made. It doesn't even start up on my iphone 4.

For an expensive app this dictionary needs some more work.

It doesn't know about the multiple spellings for different tenses, hence a word you lookup may not exist.

When clicking through to another word in the definition it always assumes that the lookup is in the alternate language.

Gender is never mentioned (huge omission).

Under each definition it gives different examples of how the word is used in a short sentence. I showed an example of a use to friend who speaks German fluently and she said the example was wrong.

There is no audio pronunciation.

It's hard to recommend this resource from such a reputable publisher, but with its faults I still do use it from time to time.

I have been living in Germany a few weeks now and am finding this app totally invaluable as I strive to expand my vocabulary. The only shortcoming however is that the plurals of nouns are not given - this could (and definitely should) be included in future updates!

### *---- "Verb tables don't work"
I really wanted a German dictionary that would work independently of the internet, because even though the free Canoo app is great, sometimes if a connection is problematic (as it often is on my university campus) it is good to have an independent resource. I chose this application over the cheaper version because it offered the verb conjugation function, but this function does not work. It jams and comes up with a blank screen. I'm writing this in the hope that the developers will fix the problem and offer a free update.

Firstly, I don't work for Collins or anything like that.  I have bought both the Italian/English and the German/English dictionaries and they are brilliant.  The ability to click through from any work to look up its meaning or see its conjugations (in all tenses) is great.  I use and study multiple languages in the course of my work and these products (together with mental case flash cards (I don't work for them either)) make my study so much more portable and effective.  If you're thinking about it, just do it! I love 'em. Ok... I'm a geek. So what!

This is really terrific if, like me, you like to listen to German podcasts and learn new vocab as you go. I love the history feature, which really helps with learning vocab. Another thing I really like is being able to click on any word on the screen and jump straight to its definition. Full verb conjugations, including subjunctive I and II, are another impressive feature. A dream feature would be the ability to mark words for learning, though I don't expect it any time soon! Two gripes: the iPhone magnifying glass often doesn't work when you want to edit a word you're looking up and have mistyped (autocorrect doesn't work for German of course!). Secondly, the dictionary is far from exhaustive. Two examples of missing German words that surprised me: Begutachtung and erdenken. It's obviously not cheap either for an iPhone app, but for me it's definitely been worth it.
