Current is an RSS reader built on a simple idea: your feed should never make you feel behind.

There are no unread counts. No red badges. No number climbing while you sleep, silently tallying everything you haven't read. Current shows you what's new right now, and that's it. Nothing is owed. Nothing is overdue. You open it when you want to read, and whatever's there is what's there.

### ****- "Very cool concept. Lots of glitches"
The concept is great but usability is really tough right now. Suggestions: make adding sources to a current way more seamless and usable. Fix the many many glitches. Eg, renaming a source works about 30% of the time. Disappointed I spent $10 on something that feels very alpha. Maybe beta. 

That being said I am rooting for this app and hope it gets better because the concept is great. For now I’ll sadly go back to my original rss
Feed because it’s been extremely annoying to set up.

### ***** "The Kind of Reader I’ve Been Looking For"
It’s a me issue, but the unread number in my RSS readers always made me feel like I wasn’t “completing” something. Current focusing on nothing but the reading and throwing out unread counts while making the reading experience nice and clean really clicked with me. Being able to mark sources as specific content, like web comics, and have them formatted to better fit the content. Overall very happy with it and looking forward to future improvements.

This reader removes all the stress from following many feeds, it gives you control of what matters and somehow does that with very simple controls. This is a marvel of design (actual design: both how it looks and how it functions)

2026-03-12: The latest update has fixed the long delay every time I open the app.

Original: I hope you like sitting around waiting to be able to interact with the app for two to three minutes every time you open this app. Frequently, when opening the app, it will also crash to the home screen. I just want to read a couple of articles when I have a little bit of free time, but this app discourages that.

EDIT. Wow, all the things keeping me from using this as my daily reader have been adjusted. That’s actually amazing. This has my full support, and thank you for reviewing feedback!

This is a great RSS reader, and I appreciate the lack of a monthly or yearly subscription model. I read both posts the developer wrote introducing this app and its philosophy. It’s highly customizable and extremely beautiful. The only thing is that the “fetch full feed” feature doesn’t seem to work for most sites in my feed that need it, and I wish triggering that was either automatic or from a swipe/pull down gesture like Inoreader. Additionally, more swipe gestures in general to navigate would be nice, and maybe a browser shortcut to quickly save articles to the app like some other readers do. That’s just my two cents, good work on this one!

I like the concept of this app but it insists on adding “From Current” as a source in my feed. No matter how many times I delete it, it always comes back. It also has lots of minor annoyances like every single time you ‘release’ an article there is an ‘undo’ pop up. There are also frequent suggestions that are meant to be helpful like suggesting that I prioritize or deprioritize sources based on how often I seem to open things. Overall I wish this app would just leave me alone and let me read things.

### ***** "Well Worth The Initial Adjustment"
Since the 2000’s, I’ve been practicing the early morning ritual of plowing through my RSS feed. Having had thousands of interactions with (the very good!) NetNewsWire, it took three or four days before Current Reader began to feel familiar and natural. It was well worth getting used to. Current really is a calmer and more beautiful way to absorb the daily deluge of information flowing in via RSS.

### **--- "Honestly much more work and stress than typical rss readers"
It's buggy, it's new, but I think fundamentally it's like the most stressful screen of NetNewsWire's Today or All Unread, with no simple way to get at what you want. Fading out things you ignore is fine except you have to stare at them until they go away or interact with them. Releasing things is the same as hiding read, except literally more effort to find the inconvenient button at the top or double swipe up from the very bottom to trigger the only convenient button.

I regret this purchase despite being hopeful for something new.

I’m really interested in the concept, but it needs some polish on the first run setup and reading experience.

Moving from another reader, the first run pulls in lots of old articles and you have to wait for the to fade, which required me to mark the feeds and wait a couple days. That’s going to lose some people.

Most readers—Kindle is one example—allow you to choose your typefaces, line density, etc. I immediately missed my settings and haven’t been able to overcome that to switch.

I’ll check back for updates.

### ***** "A thoughtful, brilliantly-designed app that intelligently revamps the RSS reader concept."
Current Reader is the first true reinvention of RSS since Google Reader shut down. That was a truly sad day - Reader was probably the app I used more than any other at the time. 

I haven’t used many RSS readers since. None felt the same. Not even The Old Reader. All of them just made me miss GR. 

But Current Reader makes me want to explore. It’s not just a cleaner interface or a nicer coat of paint — it fundamentally rethinks what an RSS reader can be.

It does take a little time to wrap your head around some of the concepts such as Currents or the River. My old Google Reader muscle memory didn’t apply at first. But the design is so intuitive and thoughtfully crafted that the learning curve actually feels fun. The more I use it, the more I want to explore it.

Brilliantly designed, genuinely innovative, and the first RSS app in years that feels like a leap forward instead of a nostalgia project.

AI is killing UI? Not today. Current proves thoughtful UI still matters.

I’ve been using RSS readers more than two decades, and Current finally gets it right. It is the Hiroshi Yoshimura of reading experiences, warm, calm, tranquil; conducive to contemplation and intimacy with the material it presents.

Current expands the boundaries of my screen while drawing me closer. I am able to be present and focused in a way I rarely experience on my iPhone. It is exactly what I want while reading, what I’ve long hoped for and, until now, did not think possible.

Normally, I tend to over-analyze apps before spending even a few bucks. (Why?!) But when I learned the philosophy behind the Current Reader’s development, I was sold. It can take conviction and courage — in addition to vision and time and effort — to challenge longstanding conventions. I applaud the developer for figuring out a way to make RSS feed-reading less stressful, even enjoyable.

It’s quite a shock trying to use after years of using Reeder (Classic).  But I dig the idea going for here.

One big improvement that could be made is fully implementing swipe to navigate. As a system that makes sense. 

Modal presentations should always allow for swiping down to dismiss. And pushed on presentations should always allow for swiping back.

I quickly fell in love with this app. I have been deleting apps from my phone to lower noise, and I have replaced 2 apps with this one. This takes enough stress out of my feeds I added some feeds to have a larger river!

Suggestion: Could we get fun picture icons of rivers in different art styles? I like recognizing apps by pictures instead of letters.

Just an absolutely brilliant philosophic approach to an RSS reader. I’ve had RSS reader’s I’ve enjoyed, but they’ve always come with the anxiety of a backlog of things I need to read.

Current does away with that anxiety and has a brilliant approach that lets you treat different types of feeds differently. I’ve got the BBC and NPR under Breaking News which disappears after 3 hours. Then personal blogs under Authors which disappear after several days.

Just a brilliant approach.

### ***-- "Cute but not complete"
I love the concept of this reader. It looks good and seems relaxing. But it has some shortcomings that came up in brief testing that will keep me from moving to it just yet:
* I think I accidentally “released” an article — and I can’t find any way to get the article back.
* If you have a lot of “currents” (eg, by importing from another reader), they quickly get unwieldy to scroll through (at least on iPhone)
* Not enough text display customization. It’s got extra line spacing when showing articles and no way to change. It may be easier for some people to read, but for me it’s just distracting and a bad use of my screen.
* Would be nice if I could swipe to *change* read status, instead of needing to set one swipe for read and one for unread.
* Some other nice ideas don’t quite work. Penny Arcade has trouble rendering whether I engage “webcomic” view or not, especially because about half the posts are comics and half are a blog post.
(Also, is it just me, or is there some article view caching happening that doesn’t refresh I change view settings on the feed?)

I’ll be watching this app and hope some of the rough edges get cleaned up so I can switch to this rss reader!

Love the concept. One thing that is driving me insane, though, is that the apps on all platforms freeze when you re-enter after being away. Quitting then re-opening fixes it, but I'd like not to have to do that every time.
