I use this app on a daily basis and have done so for the past year or so. I find the automatic download function incredibly easy to set up and use, any podcast i've searched for has always been there and the option to have individual settings per podcast is brilliant! I've seen complaints about the sync function, but as I only listen on my iPhone i've never really experienced it, however every other function works perfectly. Easily the best purchase i've made on the app store!

I heard about downcast when listening to macbreak weekly a couple of years back. I had been struggling with the built in podcast app and at the time it offered a better solution. Constant updates means it keeps getting better. The guys even made a playback speed change after I sent them a tweet. 

Lots of nice features. I use almost every day.

It's now completely broken and doesn't work on any of my iOS devices. It was a five star app and I'm giving it two stars based solely on nostalgia for the days when it used to work, really well. On current performance it's not worthy of any rating whatsoever because it's not fit for purpose.

There are few apps that significantly change how one interacts with and uses IT and digital content/media. This is one of them. 
I listen to up to 2 hrs of podcasting each weekday, and managing my feeds was time-consuming; but not anymore.
No more turning on and connecting to the home desktop PC.
No more listening to podcasts that are more than a day old and dated (news, sports).
It is far more useable than the Apple Podcasts app: the playlists functionality is far superior, and the ability to have specific settings for each podcast or playlist, such as speed, volume, continuous play, speed, priority setting, to name but a few.
I LOVE IT !!

I recently switched from Instacast to Downcast and I'm pretty impressed with it.

The interface is really attractive, the way it implements episode descriptions, links and pictures etc is pretty good. There's a lot of options in the actual player (sleep timer, scrubbing speeds) but it's designed in a way that doesn't seem too cluttered and there's a million different settings you can mess with to adjust the app to the way you want it.

The only negative thing I'd say about it is that the playlist section isn't that good. You can't put specific episodes into a playlist, just specific podcasts. So if you have two episodes of a particular podcast you have to add both instead just the one you want.

Overall, if you're a big podcast listener like I am; Downcast is pretty much a a perfect choice. But then again, I'd say the same about Instacast; however this app is cheaper and has more settings to tinker with.

Disappointing to say the least. 
 Imported manual podcasts are all given a new publishing date of the time of import, which messes up any attempt to sort the podcasts logically. I have been in contact with support who advised me the specific tags which Downcast uses for its 'published' date but the answer was not accurate as filling in these tags made no difference.   Extremely annoying.

This has been a waste of money, to be honest.

I have waited through several versions of this app but the most consistent "feature" is that it always crashes a lot. This is a shame as it's otherwise quite a good app.

Update: it doesn't crash as much now but the app now doesn't update podcasts automatically. Pretty pointless for a podcast app. AVOID
