## Foundations Memory Work C1 Description
Classical Conversations®
Foundations Memory Work Tutorials, Cycle 1

Strengthen your brain by memorizing quality content with art and song in a beautiful, interactive format in seven subject areas. Features include enhanced graphics and interactivity, Classical Conversations® Classical Acts & Facts Timeline, and U.S. presidents!

Classical educators know the importance of memorizing the grammar—the basic facts and vocabulary—of a subject. Now you can memorize the foundational knowledge of seven topics in a fun, interactive iPad and iPhone application. 

In Cycle 1, Classical Conversations students memorize 161 events and people in the timeline, including the U.S. presidents; 24 history sentences from ancient and world history; 24 sites or features of Africa and world geography; 24 science questions and answers on biology and earth science; multiplication tables (1 through 15), squares, roots, cubes, and basic math laws and conversions; Latin noun endings; and English grammar rules. This app corresponds to the Foundations Curriculum, Fifth Edition, Second Printing released in 2021.

Ancient and world history is presented in an interactive application with songs and artwork designed to make memorizing enjoyable.

Now integrated with other Classical Conversations resources, each history sentence and science question points you to the corresponding Classical Acts & Facts® Card, handy flashcards for classical educators that will expand your memory work in depth and breadth.

No matter your age, you can build a firm foundation of knowledge by memorizing these building blocks of education.

Classical Conversations Foundations students, ages 4 through 12, have been using these tools in our online subscription service, CC Connected®. The iPad application offers these additional features:

I have been with CC for a few years and me and my kids definitely enjoy it. But why isn’t there a song for each subject? We struggle with Science the most because there are no songs for it. Plus, it’s way too overpriced. I found out they have the songs for free on YouTube! Plus others who created their own songs. I feel scammed for paying my money when they were FREE! And I wish you could skip the intro at the beginning and just go to the song. Disappointed 😔

My husband is in tech development, so I know how hard it is!  The features and items currently in this app work as they should, not glitchy, appears to have downloaded all content locally to my device, which in my case I prefer since I have the memory space and my internet connection is unreliable.  For some people that could be a negative, if their device’s memory is already full. 

I hope the developers listen to the reviewers for future updates. Until then, I won’t purchase any more cycles. 

Some things parents would find indispensable:

We need the timeline song, as so many have already pointed out.  Specifically, the timeline song as a video that flips through pictures of the history cards. Make sure it’s timestamped, and we can move backward and forward, and have a continuous play (repeat) option.  I have seen this resource in existence on a resource PC disk I once had, so the content is basically there, just needs to be added. 

Also, we need flexibility to create playlists, to play all the subjects from the same week on repeat, or to just repeat a single track. Also, most of us don’t want to listen to the talking/narration before the songs, so an option to turn that on or off.  Most children memorize best with the music, and the narration only wastes our time trying to get to the song part. 

Along the lines of playlists, also a feature that keeps playing, so we can listen in the car to a whole subject at once, or one week after another, without needing to hit the “skip” button to move on. 

Keep up the good and difficult work—I look forward to these features being added in the future.

This is a cleanly designed, but very simple app. All three cycles together isn’t worth $16, let alone for just one cycle! If you want this app to earn such a price tag, it needs to do more than rudimentary menus and audio. And the spoken audio should be separated from the songs so that you can listen to the songs without having to listen to the spoken each time.

It really needs the Timeline song and the President’s song. My Challenge student said they changed the timeline tune. My younger kids can’t remember so they’re no help. Guess we’re just singing the old tune until it’s added to the app. I also did not appreciate being forced to buy the app again after changing from android to iPhone. I already paid for the material. Why pay again? Especially for such a pricey app. I’m willing to upgrade my rating if they add the songs

This review is just for the app functionality and not for the content. It would be so helpful to update the app so that you can skip the talking intros and go straight to the songs. Especially in history. Some of the sentences are so long and my kiddos want to be able to sing along several times in a row to learn the song. As it is you have to sit through the entire spoken part. A scrubbing button or a skip function would be amazing!

I just purchased this app. It’s good so far. I don’t like that I’m unable to skip through the narration/songs. I have to listen to it from the beginning. My kids want to listen to the song sometimes not the narration in the beginning.

This is our fourth year in CC and we love it.  However, this app is a total disappointment.  For $15.99, I was expecting something interactive that actually quizzes the kids on the memory work in fun ways such as games, fill in the blanks, etc.  Instead, it just reads out the information and puts it on the screen.  Seriously??!!  Completely boring and not at all engaging or helpful.  My children can read it themselves on a flip book or in the Foundations book without me having to spend additional money.  I sure hope that future updates include MAJOR improvements. Otherwise, it’s a total waste of money.
