I do like roguelike games so was happy to pay the small cost to buy this one. I’m not disappointed. I won first run and thought it wasn’t going to present enough challenge, but it really does as you progress, requiring greater skill with the gambits and there is still some need for chess tactics to do well. It’s great, a fun little pick up and play game, cheeky retro graphics and sound similar to balatro. Can’t fault it.

This game seems cool but it’s too buggy to play properly. Regularly can’t buy stuff in the store as you are unable to drag items. Entire runs get destroyed by being unable to move pieces at any point during setup or the actual game. A restart of the app does nothing and the only option is to abandon and start a new run.

An awful lot of love has been poured into this game and it shows - it’s beautifully and carefully made. But the core gameplay and balancing just isn’t up to much. Money is never hard to come by, and almost every challenge is best met by having one or two queens carefully positioned at the start. The AI has incredible weapons at its disposal, but uses them terribly, blundering unforced into danger.

Evidently a balatro type roguelike, if you like balatro and have a small understanding of chess basics this is great, using your knowledge of another game and turning it on its head. 

But, whilst it is fun, I think there’s a lack of progression like balatro has, you can play Balatro for 4hours in a row or hundred of hours in multiple sessions whilst not be bored. However, the same cannot be said about this game. There could be so much more added, that’s a good criticism. 

This game is fun, and has some funny references from the chess world and it does have good mechanics but there’s an overall lack of depth when compared to its most comparable game Balatro. 

Best of luck with it Devs, please add more content!

Another balatro inspired game. This one’s one of the better ones. If you love chess and/or balatro you’ll love this, and if you love both, well, say goodbye to your social life. I’m still learning the ropes. Most of my losses have been cos I didn’t see a really obvious move (how I lose most chess games), but I lost a few runs through no fault of my own, and that just kinda sucks. If that gets patched the this is a 5 star game til the cows come home.

The game has so much polish, charm and keeps me hooked unlike regular chess ever did.

The soundtrack is exquisite. It runs like a dream on the 14 Pro. I also have it on Steam - I’ve been enjoying it on there too.

Being able to change resolution and frame rate is absolutely incredible for a mobile game. Fine tuning it to get the right mix of battery/heat vs performance is delightful and gratefully appreciated.

The gameplay itself is riveting. So easy to get pulled into another match after just failing the last run.

It clearly takes a lot of inspiration from Balatro. It is done well. It works. It feels original and ridiculously polished. 

It is easily worth £9.99 - so grab yourself a bargain.
