This story, told with bits of animation with sets like a stage, remind me that turning Sherlock Holmes stories into stage productions is a very tangible thing. The drawings were at times a surprise when they moved. And more fun there could not be discovering which bits were more than they appeared. 
My only criticism is that I wish the drawing style was less like a cartoon as it detracted from the mood of the story. The drawings made the story less intense, less sinister than it should be. The era of the original stories supply a darkness that blends so well with crime and criminals.
