Madam Word lives in a city filled with challenging games and engaging characters, where children are invited to gradually develop the skills they need to learn to read, write and spell words.

The application is intended specifically for children from 5 to 10 years old. Madam Word showcases fun learning games and characters that help children progress.

Designed by Brigitte Stanké, speech therapist, Madam Word is developed in the light of the most recent research on learning to read. This application promotes the development of capacities pivotal to the process of learning to read and spell, namely, phonological awareness and lexical orthographic memory.

Madam Word can also be used as a re-education tool for children with reading and spelling difficulties.

The 7 games offered in this application achieve the following objectives.

The Neighbours : develop the ability to identify phonemes and graphemes in words.

Whose card is this? : locate one or two phonemes in a one-word syllable.

Rhyme Time! : judge if the words rhyme or not.

Mr. Mixup: develop the capacity for syllabic segmentation and improve phonological working memory.

Word Dive: develop phonemic segmentation and phonemes and graphemes matching abilities.

Madam Word's Library: work on the confusion between the letters "b" and "d".

Word Pond: develop the ability to visually process similar graphemes and similar auditory phonemes.

Product notes are available for this application, and are suggested for anyone interested in understand how Madam Word was created, or to make a better use of the app.

The feature which allows a student to listen to the individual sounds in the Word Dive game seemed promising but for the vowels, they are not consistent with the non-word presented. It would be good to revise the App so that the sound files present a long vowel or short vowel that matches what is in the non-word. The letters used to represent sounds do not always correspond to English orthography. For example, why used the digraph « ii » and why make it correspond to the vowel sound in « pie »? « ii » is not an english digraph.  Makes things very confusing for students. I have not reviewed the other games there may be issues there as well. I am a speech-language pathologist and I wouldn’t let my students play without guidance for fear of them getting confused.

Nous avons téléchargé cette application pour notre fille.  L’application est intéressante mais il y’a tellement de bogue que notre fille ne l’utilise plus. Certain niveau l’écran gèle. Cela semble être une application québécoise qui avait été bien conçu au départ mais qui est maintenant abandonnée. Aucun service à la clientèle.  On fait simplement continuer à faire de l’argent avec les nouveaux parents qui cherchent une application pour aider les enfants à apprendre le français. C’est dommage.
