## MLC Chat Description
MLC Chat lets users chat with open language models locally on ipads and iphones. After a model is downloaded to the app, everything runs locally without server support, and it works without internet connections do not record any information.

Because the models run locally, it only works for the devices with sufficient VRAM depending on the models being used.

 MLC Chat is part of open source project MLC LLM, with allows any language model to be deployed natively on a diverse set of hardware backends and native applications. MLC Chat is a runtime that runs different open model architectures on your phone. The app is intended for non-commercial purposes. It allows you to run open-language models downloaded from the internet. Each model can be subject to its respective licenses.

This app really shouldn't be made available on iPhone XS. The Mistral and Llama models fail to initialize due to insufficient memory, and the RedPajama model will initialize but crash the app every time you try to use it. So it's completely unusable on an XS, and you have to download many GBs of models to discover that.

This app is barebones but the newly added Mistral model is amazing for something running locally on an iPhone.

The app is barebones though and it would be nice to be able to edit the system prompt and responses.

Launching the RedPajama model now crashes. The ability to download custom models was removed unexpectedly. App is now completely useless on iPhone 13 mini.
This was a fantastic app previously, please unbreak these changes!

### ****- "Neat to use a LLM on my phone but…"
I was disappointed to see that I could not save a conversation other than copying one response at time. 

When I put app to background then returned the conversation closed and I got back to main screen. When going to conversation screen I find the app was reset and my earlier data is not present. 

Still, I’m impressed to have the chance to play with models on my phone.

I got the latest iPhone 15 with 8GB ram but was only able to use the 7b 3bit model which uses less than 4gb of ram. Program crash consistently when I try to run the 4bit model which should only use a bit more than 4bit ram.

I have to say the result from the 3bit model is comically bad, which is expected according to latest literature.

The technology on display here is certainly very impressive, however it definitely still needs some work. The app outright crashes when trying to use the vicuna and minstrel 7B models, and the the llama-2-7B model does work, it is incredibly restrictive and refuses requests that really should not be tripping the explicit content filter. I look forward to seeing more models be adapted to be usable with this app.

I tried to pull some 7b q4f16/q4f32 models from MLC.AI huggingface to iPhone 15 Pro but it would crash right after clicking these models. Only the model come with the app works.

i’m using the 3 billion model with a phone with 3gb lpddr4x and i’m not sure how much of that is dedicated for vram. I’m not sure why it can’t fully use the the 3gbs i have when the 3b model only requires 2.5gb. I’m wondering if there will be a release that can use less vram in the future?

I am on an iPhone 12 Pro and this app runs LLAMA2 at a decent speed. It’s not quite as fast as ChatGPT, but considering it runs locally, I’m very impressed. I have yet to play around with importing models, but the fact that it can run LLAMA2 at this speed on my own personal hardware is amazing. Great work!
