This app on first and second runs places you in the App Store to install a subscription app that I knew nothing about. Every scan triggered a modal pop up with a question ‘Am I enjoying the app?’. I’m not required to provide that much validation to my actual girlfriend. The “Free Trial” subscription trap is also very concerning. I would not recommend this app even to a person I disliked. It does read QR codes by the way.

1. When the Internet is off (e.g. on a plane and not connected to wifi), the app takes a long time to load the camera. It just shows a black screen with some icons for quite a while after starting the app. 2. Scanning from images requires Internet connection which shouldn’t be needed. Sometimes I just need to read the raw data from the QR code in the image while not connected to the Internet. 3. This app does have better barcode reading performance than other apps I have tried so far. Also the UI is clean. It doesn’t have many bothering ads like some other apps do. I give this app four stars because it’s good but it can be better.
