I thought all the monetization changes from the og shadowverse weren’t bad but after playing for a couple of days to give it a fair shot I can confidently say this is complete garbage and not worth it. It’s impossible to even compete with whales when the game is focused on ranked. The reason why other card games get the pass despite having worse monetization is cause budget decks can at least compete. In this game, if you don’t have the legendaries or specific golds, you will eventually hit a ceiling you can’t beat unless u spend money.

Don’t play this game. Ask yourself, why would I play a bad game when there are so many better games out there. You only live once, spend that time wisely.

Im not going to lie, as an OG shadowverse fan I am very dissatisfied with how this game turned out. The story mode only having 1 chapter even after having multiple delays, bugs like error 2 limited things you can do in Shadowverse park, basically no perks for being double master rank in previous game and leaders can’t be brought over but most egregious of all is the fact that I can’t even make a single deck after opening 100 packs 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️. This game is unplayable if your not p2w even if you grind, because there are a limited number of ways to earn currency in game and each one is limited in itself too…. Then going from 100 gold -> 500 gold is the nail in the coffin. I completely understand why this game is reviewed so terribly. I will say this though, the monetization scheme now is similar to other tcgs however that basically eliminates the main draw people had to CYGames and Shadowverse that WAS known for its f2p friendliness’s. Heres now another slop tcg game…. We’ll see how developers address this issue but right now I see no reason to play this game over any other.

TLDR: game is fun. lots of whales stomp you and your free deck. There is a “casual” matchmaking filter that is actually casual and more even playing ground for f2p to learn and play.

The game is fun and reminiscent of the other games. It looks great, runs smoothly and has a lot of things to learn and do to progress forward.

However, day 1 matchmaking has been brutal being paired with maxed out/fully powered decks. As someone looking to play as F2P player, it feels impossible to play as the grind for in-game currency and packs has greatly increased in in-game currency thus pushing for real money purchases. I get that the game needs to support itself, but this aspect of the game is the complete opposite of the previous game and really sucks the fun out of playing.

I will keep playing as I still like the game, but hope things become less aggressively monetized. There are solo modes, tutorials and even different difficulty bots to play against. These do count towards daily quests so there isn’t a direct need to play against other players. 

Edit: There is also a casual/competitive option when matchmaking, where casual seems to fit the bill of free deck + free pack players. So far it’s been fine actually!
