Helpful when it works, but it often glitches and does not respond when trying to select dates to choose my menu items. This glitch happens often and the only way around it is to go to their website, which is also tricky because it keeps trying to default to the app. Please find a permanent fix for this glitch. I have informed customer service a few times about this already.

Oct 26, 2024:
App does not let you duplicate the cooking instructions for Tovala meals, even though there is an option to do it. This would satisfy my previous review as once we made a duplicate we could name it what we wanted and keep it as a favorite.

Previous review:
I don’t see how to mark a Tovala recipe as a favorite? I’d like to mark certain cooking instructions under the recipe section so they are easily found. How do I do that? Update: You CANNOT favorite a Tovala recipe. There is no heart in the upper right corner.

### ****- "Good, but could be better"
Updating my review to 4 stars, from 3, because they have been working on fixing some of the issues with the app. I do still have to occasionally force quit and relaunch it so that the menu will update, but other than that it’s much less frustrating than it used to be. The meals, for the most part, are delicious. They do have a tendency to use way too much paprika in their Mexican food, but that’s typical of meal delivery services (and not at all typical of real Mexican food I can get here in San Diego). The chicken is sometimes so tough that you’ll need a steak knife, the broccoli sometimes comes as just one big piece that you have to cut apart, the green beans often have a few with stems on them still. Really just minor things that mean you have to do some prep for a meal that shouldn’t need prep. I do find it odd that they give you an oven mitt that is 95% polyester considering polyester melts. Mine now has several solid areas from it melting from the heat of pulling the tray out of the oven. It still does a great job of protecting my hand from the heat, though.

I’d give 5 stars if they had made the ovens a little bigger, so they can hold a normal frozen pizza, especially since they specifically mention DiGiorno as something that can be cooked in it, and if the oven mitt was 100% cotton so they don’t melt. Also, the meals need to be healthier. Too much saturated fat and not enough veggies. Some have more than half the sodium you should eat for a full day. While I don’t expect all meals to be super healthy, some weeks I struggle to find enough healthier options to fill my order.

It is disgusting how deceitful they are when it comes to explaining exactly what you’re signing up for and how not helpful they are when you reach out for help as far as cancelling. You already have my money do you really need to squeeze more money out of me when all I want to do is cancel my subscription? Working in retail for years for large corporations such as this one we often made exceptions to maintain our clients trust and alliance. I do not see why that would not be done with this company especially when we’re all poor because of the current state of the economy.  I am and will continue to be vocal about how much I despise this company to any one who will listen and have posted on all of my social medias about it. Companies who run off of tricking people are soulless and make this world a worse place. Thanks for taking advantage of me and squeezing the little bit of money I have out of me tovala!!

The app is unstable and crashes all the time. To get to the section of the app to control the oven you have to drill down into several screens to get to it. My boyfriend and I have different phones, iPhone and pixel, and it’s the same on both. We also have not been able to create custom bar codes anymore. It also doesn’t always take when creating a new or editing a recipe.

The App only allows for one email address.  Notifications are sent to that one email address.  Several people in a household may likely use the oven/meals; but only one will receive a notification when the meal is done.

If I am out of the house, my wife will not know her meal is done because the notification only comes to me.

Please fix this shortcoming.

There’s really no point to this app except selecting your upcoming meals. You can’t even view the “smart oven’s” status and how much cooking time is left. I don’t get why they call it a smart oven.

I am not happy about being charged for the upcoming week's meals when I haven't even received the first week's meals yet. I may not even like the meals that I receive, so I would appreciate the opportunity to make changes in my selections if needed.

First off, the customer support is terrible. You have to go through about 20 hoops just to get someone to email you at an inconvenient time. 

Secondly this is the worst delivery, I got 3 weeks boxes shipped to me. The first box came a day late which is concerning since it’s food in a cardboard box. The next box ALSO came a day late. Then the 3rd box came with everything damaged. I tried for about 2 hours to get in contact with a human on their support but just gave up and decided id rather just cancel the subscription it’s not worth it. 

Next, the quality of the food. The taste was all over the place to be honest. The overwhelming majority was extremely bland especially the proteins. And if anything had any noticeable flavors it was just too salty. The proteins were extremely disgusting, no matter how long you let something rest it was always water logged so whenever you cut into it (like the chicken) it would explode out with water. The chicken was extremely rubbery on the outside as well. The cheeseburger was the last straw though, this patty was revolting and made me empty my stomach via vomit, it looked like a kids science project and had the most revolting taste in the world. I wouldn’t even feed that to my dog. 

STEER CLEAR, I was given this as a GIFT and it was still an absolutely awful experience. I was told i wouldn’t have to spend anything out of pocket due to the gift card and that the oven was covered under the gift card and that they checked with the support before they bought it only for us to be lied to and I ended up having to pay 250 of my own money for the worst gift of my life.

I got this super smart oven free if I promised to purchase 6 weeks of food. Usually 4 meals per week. Had a while to do it so it wasn't a big burden. They didn't harass me about it.
The emails can beat little impersonal, but they're in the oven and food business, and I respect that.
The food, though fairly pricy, is so delicious. It isn't a small portion either. I never want seconds but I occasionally find myself working to clean my plate.
Large portions with minimal preparation. And it's quite smart indeed. You can scan some items you buy at the store and it automatically knows the temps and times based on package instructions.
It toasts, air fries, bakes, and broils. I cook a family sized Stouffer's lasagna in it a few times a month and it's no problem. Comes out hot and gooey and delicious!
I use it to babe l make Neapolitan pizza, naan bread pizza, and flat bread pizza. Perfect for premade brick oven crusts.
I love this oven and I always check the menus because there are some really good recipes that are so easy to prepare that you don't know why you don't eat more of them.

This review is strictly about the app. We have only had our oven for about a week and have yet to receive our first shipment of food, however, I have been attempting to associate custom recipes with barcodes for things like Texas toast. In this regard I am able to scan the barcode of the box, but clicking the assign recipe to associate the barcode with a custom recipe does absolutely nothing. in other cases, when searching through the chefs meals, section of the app, on occasion, tapping on a recipe, will bounce to the recipe, but then immediately bounces back to the food list. I can see how these two features would be absolutely useful to use through the application, and I’m disappointed that I’m having these issues. I hopethat the developers can track down and replicate these issues, and get them fixed in the next update.

While I can create my own recipes it will not allow me to assign a barcode to one. The option pops but does nothing. It’s also pretty fickle on when it will scan a barcode. I have to close the app and reopen to get it to work sometimes.
