There are a huge number of movie formats, and VLC can convert most of them - but it can't convert everything. If you have any doubts, then please try the free version of this application first.

I used to have no problems copying videos to my iPad, lately the copying process will hang and I'll have to restart my iPad and PC and try again, also if the screen goes dark while copying, the file will stop transferring and the whole process will have to be restarted again.

VLC streamer appears to be created by an obvious amateur. The server software that you install on the PC is exceptionally poorly made and is CONSTANTLY buggering the user with extremely frequent updates. 

It is also very slow and not user friendly. Better to use the sharing functions of nPlayer or AVPlayer HD.
