I have been using YNAB for around 5 years now and I’d be completely lost without it.. I’ve tried many other apps, software and excel but struggled to find an easy way to manage surprise or future accrued expenses. YNAB makes this incredibly easy due to the ability to have as many or as little categories as you need with targets across various time periods. This allows for speedy budgeting each month together with customised filtering through ‘views’ so you can see e.g. monthly costs versus long term. I’m a little obsessive with my budgeting so being able to plan for irregular but known expenses such as a new boiler in X years has been ideal. Other great features are the flags you can rename e.g. I flag green if I’ve checked the receipt for category splits. I’m also loving the new receipt upload feature ✨

The inability to import banking transaction in accurate chronological is according to actual transaction events in this day and age is mind boggling! All banks have this information available so why don’t they use it. It causes major frustration every time you need to reconcile accounts. When I raised the issue, it was just fobbed off as something not available.

Literally the first thing you see when opening the app is the requirement to create an account and buy a subscription. Even despite a 1-week free trial being offered, nobody wants to pay a subscription for a budgeting app. Ridiculous.

I've used YNAB for around a year now and it's safe to say my finances have never been healthier. It's been a revelation and has made managing my money and building up savings almost effortless. In fact I'd go so far as to say using YNAB is fun. I look forward to payday because I enjoy the task of assigning money into each pot.

Created my ‘plan’ in GBP.  Connected my first account, which happens to be EUR.  It syncs the balance 200EUR and says it’s £200.  Failed at the first hurdle.

Other than this, it didn’t even import any transactions just the starting balance.

I’ve used the app for years. It helped me get out of debt and build a savings account for the future. But recently they switched bank import provider and now it’s just so unreliable, missing transactions etc. their only advice? “Try and reset it” or “just do it manually”, both of which defeats the whole purpose of automated imports. Disappointed.

The concept of YNAB is good however it is not unique. I’ve struggled with consistent budgeting for years , and find YNAB gets into a mess if you don’t update it regularly enough as actions taken , or not taken, impact future months.  

On top of that the price has become far too high for people who are focused on saving money. I’d like to stick with it but it’s just too expensive!

I agree with the other reviewers about the unnecessary updates to the app. I now also avoid it and give a huge sigh whenever I have to use it over the excellent web version.

The problem is that the changes make it harder to do anything. Multiple clicks and lots of noise (what's with the multiple tabs!!). It seems more about branding than actual functionality. Simplicity should be the key here guys - what we have here is just terrible UX. It used to be great.

I work with designers and they now actually use it as a regular example of what not to do with an app!

Please consider changing it back. I just pray that the web team do not go this way (please, I beg you - don't!!!!)
