The Easy Way to Create Split-Screen Music Videos on Your Mobile Device
Roland’s 4XCAMERA is a unique app that allows you to create impressive music videos with up to four performances split on the screen. Start by capturing one video performance to the app, which becomes your guide. Then sing or play along and capture up to three more performances, adding new parts on each pass. As you perform, sound is recorded via the device’s built-in mic or a connected audio capture device like GO:MIXER PRO.
With just 4XCAMERA and a smartphone or tablet, it’s easy to get creative and take your video performances to new levels. And by sharing 4XCAMERA video projects through cloud-based storage, multiple musicians can use the app to contribute performances to your songs from anywhere in the world! The latest version adds integrated access to free video clips featuring live drummers, letting you spice up songs with on-demand backing.
4XCAMERA supports capturing up to two performances. An upgrade to full functionality is available via a small in-app purchase.

You’re pretty well left to puzzle out how the app works. I laid down a rhythm guitar track and was quite impressed with sound & video (using iPod 6 gen), but when I recorded the lead track, no amount of tinkering with the timing function could get them in sync. Will keep on experimenting.
Average at best
I’ve tried many multi-screen video apps and I’m not gonna say this is the worst because it isn’t. But it’s not that great. Trimming videos to get them in time is a pain in the a**! Holding down gently with my finger to trim is a real pain.
One minute it’ll follow the finger and the next it’ll jump to about half way up the track!
2/5 at best!
Great app but poorly inplemented sync
Using this for music education online. A delightfully simple, free means of producing collaborative, split-screen videos that everyone can get into without any expensive equipment - just your phone!
Works really well except for the sync which is still an issue (Jan 2021) and really poorly implememted - it’s most often doable but feels rather hit and miss and requires a lot of patience. Rather like trimming videos on iOS there isn’t fine enough control over the frame you want to start on - fat fingers won’t help but why not just have a frame by frame nudge button rather than dragging wide bars with no frame or audio reference? Even the time stamp doesn’t change in iOS as I have seen it do in the YouTube demos. Surely such an easy fix but I fancy this is an app that Roland have thrown out there as a useful idea/promo and will never bother to fix. Please prove me wrong?!
Also surprised that the app doesn’t retain the backing track you are performing to (unless you record back into the phone by not wearing headphones but quality suffers). And there is no means to reincorporate it or add one as a soundtrack. Would make this app much more useful.
Brilliant App, but....
Please can you update it to run with IOS 13/6/1........it worked perfectly until I got a new iPhone and now it records in portrait sometimes when it should be landscape, and the timing on the 2nd 3rd and 4th videos is way out. This never used to happen with my iPhone 6s. Just for the record, I’ve made more than 50 videos with this app and it is generally brilliant!!
Brilliant for split screen!
You can change the aspect ratio, adjust your clips in the frame, preview and save. Even the watermark looks awesome (first time I’ve ever liked a watermark) Definitely recommend!
Great app
I’ve only just got this app for my iPhone. It’s easy to use and I have managed to make a 3 part recording almost straight away. Just using it for a little fun during lockdown.
Great app!
I was a bit dubious because of negative reviews about recordings being out of time, but found that this is caused by latency with playback that can be fixed by editing the videos within the app. The functionality to trim videos up to the millisecond and hear the results before saving works really well, as does being able to adjust the levels of each video. You can also get more than four tracks into your finished piece by selecting previously combined videos as part of the four. This app is making lockdown so much better!
4XCAMERA
Can see why this app only manages a rating of 2 stars.. lack of information, unable to share video! May well be because it’s the free vision. Can’t see a cost for the upgrade..
So much potential but so poor
The lag makes this so tricky to use, and when I finally figured out how to line everything up, the export option failed, so I can’t actually export the stuff I’ve created. I was so excited about using this app but it’s seriously hard work. Also there’s no support. Gutted.
Lag makes it unusable
Really solidly built app let down by one very basic aspect. Recording an additional video whilst listening to a first, results in un-synchronised final video. I am using the Apple supplied headphones/mic connected via lightning cable. I wanted to record multiple guitar parts and voice. I put three videos together and the result was unusable - unless I spent ten minutes dragging the trim slider to try and line the parts up. Very disappointed - especially as I paid for the app to be able to use more than two video parts.
