Description
Age, genetics, disease, trauma are causes of vision loss. At some time in a person’s life cycle, their vision becomes blurry.
This app is for the person with vision loss and their friends and family. We are not doctors and do not prescribe. We fill vision prescriptions, provide educational materials, and offer devices not found in mainstream optical shops.
The first level of vision can be corrected with spectacles (or glasses), or contact lenses. One may opt for refractive surgery that permanently corrects their vision, until the next phase of vision loss.
When a cataract forms, surgery often corrects for most of that vision lost when the natural lens in the eye is removed and an intraocular lens, sometimes called lens implant, is placed inside the eye. Still, one may need spectacles for clear vision at distance or near for reading.
Then there is a phase when one is no longer correctable. A disease such as macular degeneration and glaucoma, cause uncorrectable vision loss.
This app focuses on resources, devices, tips and tools. It addresses what the doctors don’t have the time or expertise to help you with. As an Optician Low Vision Specialist, I fill vision prescriptions like a pharmacist fills medical prescriptions.
We offer resources to help with low vision devices like digital magnifiers, resources like the library of congress for Talking Books, and organizations like American Council of the Blind. Plus, educational programs and support groups.
There are on-line, virtual, and in person programs available from general vision content to specific diseases like macular degeneration.
Our goal is to service your vision needs beyond what the receive from your eye doctor in terms of educational materials, devices and resources. We can not provide vision you do not have nor your doctors can provide.
